Whedon VS Lucas

Hey there everyone!!!

I'm not trying to start a whole Firefly/Serenity thread here, but I came across this quote in an interview with Joss Whedon and I thought it was really great to share.

“It has always been my ambition to never have a director’s cut, that the best movie I can put out is the one I’m putting out,” says the filmmaker. “Even though I took things out, I did it for a reason. There’s an old saying amongst writers and directors: Kill your children. If it’s not working, pull them.”

The full interview can be found here: Link

I thought this statement from Joss was absolutely awesome. Finally we got someone who's got his head screwed on straight. Lucas needs to listen to this dude.

So, what do you guys think? Think Joss's movie is gonna kick the living shit out of Star Wars? Probably not, methinks, but I'm rooting for the guy. I want someone to come along and do something that leaves Lucas in the dust.

No one has any comment at all?!?!??!

I posted this early this morning!!!! What is wrong with all of you?!?!?!

Anyone here even know what Firefly or Serenity is?

I hope y'all get sacked by Reavers!!!!

Well, his comment even applies to his TV work. He wrote and directed an episode of Angel around one scene and ended up cutting it. Uses the same logic in his commentary for it.

I think Serenity will be fine. From reviews and reactions I've read, the movie's not without its flaws but it's very good.

I know that Tarantino is the same way. He'll never release a "Director's Cut" because he makes the film he wants the first time. I don't recall which film commentary states this, though.

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

There are many films that leave Lucas in the dust. Try the Lord of the Ring films, for example.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

Red heads ROCK. Blondes do not rock. Nuff said.

I dont hate Lucas and find the prequels o.k and watchable, but Lord of the Rings blows the prequels away with only Sith coming near, something that I could not say about the original trilogy

I couldn't agree more. That's why I love this site and what people here are dedicated to. The PT had all the potential in the world and one man blew it all away.
He big in nothing important in good elephant.
