Hello all,
Last night I bought a new TV and I’m having trouble getting it to talk to my receiver. The TV is a Samsung UN48J5201, and the receiver is a Yamaha from the RX line (I don’t remember which offhand and don’t have an easy means of finding out at the moment). Everything is working fine for the most part, but I can’t get any audio for the smart TV apps.
I didn’t think the TV was ARC capable because neither HDMI port was labeled as such, but under the TV’s sound settings there’s a “receiver” option that becomes available when I enable ARC on the receiver. When I select this and put the receiver on the proper input, though, none of the speaker icons on the receiver’s display are lit up, and I still get no audio.
I figured this must mean the TV isn’t ARC ready after all in spite of the “receiver” option under the sound settings, so I ran an optical cable from the TV to the receiver and switched the TV to “audio out”, but I still encountered the same problem with the speaker icons not lighting up on the receiver. Anyone have any ideas for what I could try next? It’ll be a shame if I have to go back to my Roku stick and forego all the smart TV functionality I just went out of my way for.
EDIT: Problem solved. I had the TV input on the receiver set to the wrong channel.
