Has anyone preserved a lot of the documentaries that are out there in HD?  Is there a list of them?

Off the top of my head, I can think of:

ILM

Star Wars Tech

Star Wars The Legacy Revealed

“Science of Star Wars: Space Cowboys”

“Science of Star Wars: War, Weaponry and the Force”

“Science of Star Wars: Man and Machine”

Wishful Drinking (not technically a documentary but…)

Took me a few years to notice but two of the AotC HD broadcasts are in different definition.  Both 1920x1080 but one's pan/scan.  (pics are full, open in new window for details)  Can anyone tell if the 2004 was upsized or were the 2007 downsized?

2004 : Star Wars Attack of the Clones.0002.ts

2007 : Star.Wars.II.Attack.Of.The.Clones.1080p.h264.dd51.de.en.dc.ts (German)

Anyone seen any of the other films in HD pan/scan?

The 16:9 version is definitely upscaled because episodes II and III were shot in 1080p and then cropped to 2.35:1, so they don't and never can exist in any resolution higher than 1920x816.

So is there an easy place to find some of the stuff "none" posted a list of?

Some recent ones are on usenet.  (wishful, ILM)  Some get reupp'd periodically. (Visual Effect Society Awards)  But because of size, a HD trade is easiest.

Anybody willing to do a trade? Or work something out for some of these?

I have the Star Wars Tech DVD but I don't know if it's different than the broadcast.

I saw there was a release of all 6 German caps .... would be damn nice to have them all to use for the DTS audio.

Eps II and III were shot on 1080p cameras and then cropped to 2.35:1, so the pan and scan versions are definitely upscaled. The original trilogy was scanned in at 1080p as well, so pan and scan versions would also have to be upscaled. Same goes for the old master of TPM used in these old HDTV broadcast and the BD master afaik is sourced from DI tapes, which were probably 2K, so even that would have to be upscaled for pan and scan.

I am holding out hope someday some fan will do an HD scan of From Star Wars to Jedi, i mean if that unfaded LPP print ever resurfaces.

There was one? Been watching Ebay for quite some time hoping a 16mm turns up. Overseas auctions evade searches far too often these days.

A long time ago on Ebay most of a decade ago i would imagine for only somewhere between 150.00 and 250.00  US dollars.  Steep price for a documentary but the print was a Rare LPP and unfaded.

Almost as nice as the Derann Super8mm Jedi.  I doubt we will ever see another.  But i have yet to see any more dodgy faded prints either.

Funny enough a couple years ago some guy had the making of raiders a library print i think and fading, when asked if he had any from star wars to jedi he said no.

The Making of Star Wars and SPFX are not rare but i have hardly ever seen classic creatures.  I would venture to say its even rarer than from star wars to Jedi.

Would like to collect some 16mm films sadly they are hard to find these days.  And i wish i could afford the hobby.  Nothing i desire more to own than the Derann Return of the Jedi feature in super 8 or some star blazers episodes in 16mm.

I saw CC once on Ebay, but the officially released version with the video generated credits had me fooled into thinking it was edited on SD video, and any 16mm print would be a fuzzy kinescope, more or less. The one on the Blu Ray is a totally different ancient analog video master, but has different a different credit sequence done on film.

Why there are two slightly different versions of the same doc is a mystery to me. Nothing seems to have been edited out, unlike the Disney clips excised from SPFX.

I keep hoping a print of the Temple of Doom documentary pops up someday.

To answer DFNYC i saw an HD doc called Prophets of Sci FI on the science channel which re-aired recently shown about a a year ago originally not sure if someone has the HD files for it.  Originally 2012.

Before Lucas sold to Disney.  Not very good documentary either.  Very Boring and trying very hard to link science fantasy to science fact a bit like How William Shatner saved the world.

Prophets of Science Fiction was a Ridley Scott production focusing on the connection of stories/entertainment to hard science.

Terribly sorry to be digging up this old thread, but would one of you know whether History Channel’s “Legacy Revealed” doc is available somewhere (other than usenet) in somewhat high quality?

Someone uploaded it to YouTube in 720p, but it’s an upscale of something that looks like even less than 480p. Can someone confirm whether the actual .ts file mentioned in this thread is in proper HD?
