HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE — Page 9

Those scenes worked because they weren't overplayed. The contrast of the cheering crowd with facepaint to the dead Cedric was stark, but not ridiculously heavy handed. Plus if John Williams had to go, Patrick Doyle was a fantast underrated choice for the new score. I wish that he was doing OOTP. Has anyone heard his excellent work in Henry V? Really strirring stuff.

Who's doing the score for the next film?

And yes i have to say, besides the glossed over bits that can be cleared up in the sequel with a quick line about brother wands connecting, I love Goblet of fire because it's the Empire Strikes Back of the series. Sexual tension is strong, villains return, and a character is lost in the end. And Adigitalman's edit makes it even better.

Above all that, what I truly enjoy is how perfectly Dan plays harry in this one. He's just exactly what Hamill is to Luke Skywalker I think. I just can't imagine any other actor as harry potter anymore. It's like the planets that aligned the day the three leads in star wars were cast re-aligned when harry potter was cast because each of the lead kids in these movies is absolutely perfect for their part. I'm seriously expecting Dan to become an excellent voice actor, Rupert to become a huge movie star in movies like Arizona Smith and the Party of five, and Emma to become a hollywood writer. Hey... it's possible.

My favorite thing about GOF is Harry's moments with Cho. I just love seeing him play those moments so genuinely it's as if he's not even acting. That Cho is cutie... i can't wait to see more of those two in the next.
He big in nothing important in good elephant.

Nicholas Hooper. I'm not familiar with his work. And Radcliffe is becoming quite the young actor.

Hmm. I loved Patrick Doyle's score. As soon as I first saw the movie, I thought that I had to get that soundtrack (which I did!). I didn't know he was leaving. That's rather disappointing. I never had any urge to buy HP soundtracks until then. While John Williams's work for the first three was really good, it just sounded too derivative of previous works.

Williams often has that problem, in my opinion, especially when working on a franchise. Williams composes great music, he just has a tendancy to compose too much of it.

Definitely. To this day if I'm humming the Superman theme I will accidently wander into the Star Wars theme.

Heh, yeah, I was thinking the same thing when I saw Superman Returns Sunday night.

They overuse Williams's theme more than he ever did. After the work he did on X2, I was a bit disappointed in Ottman's work. Noting reallt stood out.

I have to admit that as much as I like John Williams Superman theme, hearing in Superman Returns made me feel like I was watching a parody of a Superman film and I'm not sure why it had that effect on me.
