I didn't have too much problem with DP just I wanted to see the 2nd group of girls to be all killed so Mike would look like a bad ass. I also heard people say that DP the 2 sets of girl were in reverse.

Based on what? The script has the movie like we saw it (except the missing reel was written and shot).

Rumor has it that the Weinsteins (the Executive Producers) are thinking of pulling the double feature soon and releasing them as two separate movies since it had such a bad opening weekend.

I think that's a bad decision.

The movie looked like schlock to me, so it doesn't surprise me that most of the world wasn't inspired to go see it. The Weinsteins, as well as Tarantino and Rodriguez have been taken down a notch or two, and that is not a bad thing. They've been trading on their names and not their skills for too long.

Splitting the movies up is a last-ditch effort to salvage what they can, but it likely will fail. The whole point was to make an exploitational double-feature, so the in-joke that drove the entire project will be lost.

I'll wait for it to be on HBO.

It's a knee-jerk reaction to ONE weekend's box office. Anyone who's actually seen the film(s) will tell you they're outrageous good fun. I had a total stranger in the mall yesterday ask me if I've seen it and we went on to talk about it. I haven't seen (heard) a single negative review yet. If they split the films it'll be a tremendous mistake on Weinstein's part. Rodriguez and Tarantino delivered.

Just saw this last night. Wow! I can't remember the last time I saw a double feature

Planet Terror = A
Fake Trailers = A+
Death Proof = D

Planet Terror and the fake trailers alone were worth the price of admission. Death Proof, I guess, I just took as a bonus since it really isn't very good. Quentin Tarantino is one of my all time favorite directors. I have all his movies and really enjoy his artistic style. But his movie was just...well, crappy. It's just talk, talk, talk, and the talking isn't even very good. You know how Tarantino's dialogue is usually funny or interesting? Well, this time it was just boring. No "Like a Virgin" or "Royale with Cheese" type of dialogue, no, it was just contrived, boring dialogue which only function seemed to extend the running time. I kept looking at my watch as the second movie went on and on. It's extremely boring with little to no payoff at the end. Sure, the car chase is cool, but was it really worth and hour and ten minutes of the shit that came before it? A slasher movie (like the one featured in the "Thanksgiving" trailer) probably would have been a better choice to double up with the insanity that was Planet Terror. Planet Terror was non-stop action, blood, guts, laughs, and pretty much pure genius. My only gripe with it was that Tarantino's "cameo" was a little too long. Otherwise, the movie really rocked. I find it ironic that Rodriguez, who is the lesser of the two filmmakers, made the far superior movie.

If you see it, just be sure not to skip the trailers in between the two films. Instead, go to the bathroom as soon as Death Proof begins.

I hope that "Machete" becomes a real movie

Damn, it seems like my tastes are the exact opposite as everyone else. I thought the entire movie was fantastic EXCEPT for Planet Terror. I thought Death Proof was fantastic.

Awesome fun. Best four consecutive hours I've spent in a movie theatre. Deathproof is definitely in need of some fan editing, though. For instance, the first 5-10 minutes of the diner scene. I agree with the comment above about Tarantino's dialogue missing a step.

Anyone who goes into a Tarantino movie and doesn't expect more dialogue than actual plot need to do their homework a little bit.

Also, "Death Proof" was more like an actual grindhouse movie; most of the old ones had a whole lot of talking because it was cheaper to shoot, and most of them were made with shoestring budgets.

You're forgetting of course, that Grindhouse movies usually didn't include two big name stars (Rosario Dawson and Kurt Russell). The cost of them alone probably was more than the entire budget of many actual Grindhouse movies. There's no way a real Grindhouse audience would have sat through forty minutes of dialogue before anything happened, and then another forty minutes of dialogue before the finale.

How was that dialogue any different from the song about "Like A Virgin" in "Reservoir Dogs"? Or the "Royale with cheese" dialogue in "Pulp Fiction"? Also, this line in particular from your post pretty much illustrates the point I was trying to make:

That was the entire point, as is the point of any Tarantino script. He's able to write people, and he's able to write them in a realistic way.

Tarantino guest-directed on one of the four stories in Sin City, though I'm not sure what.

And Frank Miller is probably the king of comic noir, so it's very much his writing that gives the movie its grisly tone...

Never heard of it, although I would like to see A Scanner Darkly. Dick seems to have been quite troubled in his life.

Tarantino directed the scene in "The Big Fat Kill" when Dwight is driving to dump Jackie Boy's body and he hallucinates him coming back to life and talking to him.

And I have to agree with JediSage and TRB, The Nightmare Before Christmas was the only time I ever fell asleep in a movie theatre.

I've heard that a box set is coming to America sometime this Summer with the FULL theatrical experience. Looking forward to that and hopefully Machete will be made soon.

I think I'll get the Japanese version. It will fit nicely next to my Japanese Kill Bill dvds. But it's about time these cool versions aren't limited to Japan.

Yeah, I can't wait for Machete! I love the trailer. I have to say, it's a pitty the fake trailers are fake. :)

Unfortunately I only got to see the two films seperate. As a result I felt DP was a bit flat, I wouldn't have minded so much if it was only half the experience and not the star attration.

I don't really have an interest in cars or conversations that don't go anywhere so DP did little to keep me entertained for it's run time. It was mostly the second half that I was bored with. The characters here just did nothing for me, And the blond stunt girl actually started to annoy me a little.

I wouldn't say it's terrible, I like the first half mostly. I think it has to do with the feeling of having the rug pulled out under me, by the time the story really starts going somewhere all the characters are wiped out and we start over. Essentially I was 'rickrolled' by Tarantino.

Planet Terror on the other hand kept me entertained throughout, as silly as it was. I did squirm a little tho when the Doc was looking up nasty medical conditions on the computer.

I didn't actually notice the crossover characters at first either, Like Earl Mcgraw
