Got the DVDs Today

And seriously, I figured, how bad could they be?

BAD! These movie just seem to take everything I thought was Star Wars and changed it. The changes that have been made completely ruined the movie IMHO. I love Star Wars but I would prefer to get the OT on legal DVD. But that doesn't seem to be the case. The changes that have been made to dialogue just urk me, along with the voice overs by Temurra Morrison (anyone else feel like he rushed through those four lines), and the image of anakin at the end sealed it. I am about to give up on Star Wars, and that includes playing the games and the books and everything. I must say though, some of the changes (better visuals) do make the movie better, you don't buy a book because of the cover, and well the visuals don't paint the entire movie either. At least Peter Jackson is doing what Lucas should. Lord of the Rings Theatrical version weren't his final image of those films either, yet he still released them as a DVD first. I am severally disappointed in this DVD set, and hope that Lucas and Lucasfilm will change their backwards position on the state of the ot and release the actual theatrical set.

Congratulations. You have taken the red pill and freed your mind. I hate the changes too, as do many.

actually one thing that REALLY pissed me off was they removed Yoda's "Feel like what" line. Why? to make luke seem more powerful using the force??

lol You should have found a friend that bought them first to make sure they were worth buying, that's what I did. Obviously they aren't worth buying, so I will not have them in my home.

What? Um... I just watched Empire the other night and that line is there. Clear as a bell too, perhaps there's some calibration in order for your sound system?
For as much as some people claim to hate what Star Wars has become, they sure seem incapable of shutting up about it.

I ever scanned back through it and it wasn't there, weird

Well, I wasn't planning on buying the dvds anyway because of all the changes. But when I found out that the surround channels are reversed in ANH along with other strange audio clitches and Lucasfilm is claiming it is intentional EVEN THOUGH the soundtrack in other languages is perfect....Grrr. Right now, I wouldn't even accept the dvds as a free gift!!

I was so upset when I was watching Empire and found out that they changed Vader's "Baahh!!" during the lightsaber fight when he falls off the carbonite freezer to some stupid grunt or something. Little unnecessary changes like that really irked me.

I saw some of ANH at Good Guys today. The colors were oversaturated in some cases(must...not...stare at escape pod hatch. Must...focus...on characters. ^_^). I skipped to the battle of Yavin to see about that fanfar, and I just couldn't believe it. The store display was booming. THe bass shattering, yet this fanfair was all but inaudiable. It changes the mood horribly. I can't believe they would mix it down that much.

Unquestionable 'creative decisions' from the Almighty.

Who are we mere peons to question His will?

Spend your money elsewhere Lucas does not want it.

It's true, that line is definitely still there - though he does make this stupid noise when Luke spins and points the blaster at him. Just one of those annoying new/changed sounds that Lucas insidiously injects every two minutes or so.

Thank you! This has been the most hated change in my ears. Frickin horrible audio alteration (considering he makes the same stupid sound like 10 seconds before). Fear not though. The "AARRGGHH!!!" is still there when he cuts through that pole thing before slicing off Luke's hand. And the link in my sig has it too.

amgrew: if you're watching it on a tv, switch to 2.0 sound in the audio options menu. Could be you're listening in 5.1 and don't have the surround of something.

I'm surprised they didn't put in a badly looped Liam Nessan line when Vader starts fighting Luke in ESB. "Anikan... Anikan... Noooo..."

That noise Yoda makes was always there...

"I feel like......"

"Feel like what?"

"Like we're being watched"

"Eeerrrgghh.....Away put your weapon, I mean you no harm"

Always there!!

Not so. It's not on either of my Def. Col. bootlegs. Are you talking about the '97 SE?

I borrowed the '04 editions from a buddy (in Fullscreen...blah) and the quailty of the films are great....but the changes are not......the new lightsaber effects suck....

That sound Yoda makes was added in the Special Edition.

I just watched the '95 Faces VHSs the other day, and Im pretty sure there is some sound before the "away put your weapon" line starts. I dont know if they turned it up, or tweaked it, but he does make a sort of startled noise. Ive only seen the ANH '04 Version, and since I refuse to buy the set, it may stay that way for a while. The little sound changes are a major quibble I have, I mean, can anyone say "pointless."
But honestly, one of the most glaring flubs is Luke's lightsaber on the Falcon (when he is training). That seriously is one of the biggest oversights ever. Please spare me the justifications from SW.com - "its a reaction to the disturbance in the force, Alderaan being destroyed" Uh....wtf?!

I dont care how much of a GL lackey you are, how can you justify the myriad of minute changes to sound and color. Not to mention, the completely ass-backwards rear channels durring ANH.

This concept of "creative decisions" is being exploited well beyond its maximum (logical) extent.

Hmnn, what would happen if Luke had fired his blaster?

Well, if you use the PT as a body of reference, he might have caught the blast in his hand, or mouth, and spit/thrown it away. Or, he might have teleported, or CGI flipped out of the way. Really, the possibilities are endless.

But in all seriousness, that would have been an odd plot device. I wonder if Yoda would have simply taught him as a Force Ghost...or maybe Luke just gives up (his x-wing is just about submerged) so he lives on Dagobah for the rest of his life. Man, I dont think Empire would be my favorite if that happened

P.S. I was looking at this chocolate bar I bought, its from a company called Dagobah, and on the back it says that Dagobah is Greek for "temple of the Gods" or something to that effect...I thought that was neat.

All that "and if Luke..." reminded me that I just saw a few days ago, on the Dark Horse Comics site that someone took that very concept and made a story with it. (3 stories, actually)

It's called Star Wars Infinities, and the story begins at the end of A New Hope, with Luke missing the exhaust port of the Death Star!!!

There's a similar story for The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

Anybody have read those? Are they any good?

Han: Hey Lando! You kept your promise, right? Not a scratch?
Lando: Well, what’s left of her isn’t scratched. All the scratched parts got knocked off along the way.
Han (exasperated): Knocked off?!

Can you say Run Lola Run?

Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

When I heard about the concept of Star Wars Infinities, I rolled my eyes and prudently went to look at something else. Seriously, what IS the recent obsession with villains winning?
Author

How is that different with an obsession of good guys winning? I guess you hated ESB because of its downbeat ending, then?
