Hello everyone out there I’m AreaG I just logn in as new member, so let me get down to the point. Around 2006 the cable network MonstersHD had shown an film mastered 35mm print of New World pictures’ Godzilla 1985, which is an american version of the japanese Godzilla film which that realses a year before.

The american version Raymond Burr who reprising his role Steve Martin from the original american version of Gojira. Godzilla 1985 wasn’t hit there in U.S., but over the years the film became some what a cult hit. The film is only can only be seen in a pan and scanned old VHS tape also it out of print, so it seem like this Godzilla film may never see the light of day of having an DVD release like many others before and after it.

Nevertheless that MonstersHD airs an widesreen HD print and it has been airs many times after. What I want there is if anyone who may have recorder the movie it on a DVD recorder sent a copy, so I use for a restoration of the film and to created on DVD along side the japanese version as well special features.

This is my project I’m working on which is a DVD to contain the same version of the film, so it to be seen and own it by us the fans.

If anyone have copy the widescreen version of Godzilla 1985 contact me anytime if you got a DVD copy later.

I have a copy of Monsters HD's version, and although it's standard definition and non-anamorphic it still looks fairly good. Here's a really good article about the Monsters HD broadcast:

http://hkfilmnews.blogspot.com/2007/10/godzilla-1985-widescreen-on-monsters.html

There's a torrent site called cinemageddon.org, and some people have posted great looking Monsters HD broadcasts. I've been pestering them to put Monsters HD's Godzilla 1985 up there. If anyone has a full-HD copy of this, come out, will ya?

I would gladly help you with your dvd project. I have loads of tv spots and trailers for the US cut, along with a press kit and the original music video. If you want a third version of the film in this special edition, there's the international cut, which is basically the original cut with bad dubbing. It is unique because it has different opening and end credits, and the subtitles and text that appear frequently in the original version are gone. I'm trying to find a better copy of it, and any help would be appreciated.

Do you have the raw HD .ts files or just the DVD you are upping at CG?

I am planning on getting this DVD and IVTC'ing the video and making it anamorphic,I was hoping Doug could send me a copy I asked him about it at CG, but I have to get it by other means.

I would rather have the .ts file though, not the DVD,this would make a great HD2DVD project.

I'm smiling at the thought of a Godzilla 1985 music video. Please feel free to elaborate at your convenience :-)

The new screens held!

I have the Monsters HD version and the international cut, although my current copy of the latter looks so bad it's almost unusable.

I don't have the .ts files, just the dvd.

The music video is actually hilariously bad, and it features a love song called "I was afraid to love you". It used to be on youtube, but I think it's gone now.

Great to see some interest in this project! If this goes along good enough, maybe we can do a dvd of Biollante and the rest of the convoluted-but-at-the same-time-somewhat-entertaining Heisei series.

Doug Gorius:
Have you thought of uploading your GODZILLA 1985 dvd onto rapidshare or megaupload?

no, I'm just not in the mood to split up a DVD5 into loads of 200 mb files.

Can anyone torrent this file then?  If anything, I can do the breakdown for Rapidshare or MegaUpload.

Somebody on Cinemageddon (the torrent site I originally uploaded my dvd to) is putting a new copy of the HD airing up soon; it still isn't full 1080i but it will be an anamorphic DVD, which gives it an edge over my non-anamorphic version.

Also, soon I'll be getting a better Usenet provider so I can download the Japanese cut in full 1080i. Apparently, all the Japanese versions were restored and shown on HDTV over in Japan last year. I'm still hoping I'll find a better copy of the International cut, no matter how bad it is I somehow feel the need to have it preserved.

Does anyone have this (or know someone who might have this) in 1080i from Monsters HD? I've been looking for a full-res version for years and have only found standard definition rips, none of which look that good.

Technically, I know one person who has the HD rez version, but he won't let anyone see it.

I'd rather have Return of Godzilla with English subtitles. From the Blu-ray.

What is the quality of Godzilla 84 on blu ray.  Some of the TOHO blu rays are in abominable quality. Unlike the Gojira release by Criterion which was superior than both the original TOHO blu and the US blu ray original.

Which was a black and white movie and not widescreen and in mono sound.  The 1984 color remake was of course in color and stereo sound and anamorphic widescreen.

the 1984 version is not excessively grainy the color film stock is relatively clean in the prints i have seen.

Of course the scenes where there are several generations away from the original because of the optical effects will always be slightly off with the live footage which is usually the case with pre cgi films.  Especially when the live action footage is taken from the o-neg.

Still this was when movies were still films and did look like films and not video.  An era of movies i much prefer to the current cgi crop.

THE US cut was never on DVD only VHS, i am not even sure it got a laserdisc release and if it did it was pan and scan like the vhs and cut like the US release was always.

I wish there was a restored USA blu ray of the Japan cut from 1984 with English subtitles and a commentary track like Criterion does, but i doubt it will happen i doubt that the sales of the Godzilla blu rays are enough for anyone to pick up the rights.

I have Godzilla 1985 widescreen,  I do not remember where I bought (probally Ebay) but I have upsampled the whole movie using PowerDirector 11 with pretty nice results.

I may do a torrent if I can figure it out

I did consider buying Gojira 1984 from Japan but as no english subtitles are on the BD it would be pointless.

Also no reviews of the TOHO BD are online as far as i know.

Their release of Hidden Fortress which is not from the criterion restored print got less than stellar reviews.

Waiting for a US release from Criterion.  I know Godzilla 84 will probably not happen as the original blu ray did not sell well for Gojira from criterion and TOHO wants too much for the license to the 1984 movie.

The ONLY video of this I have is a 2 disc set .... got it off iOffer I believe.  It contains the U.S. VHS pan/scan and a 2nd disc which is the Japan Widescreen DVD.  They both show their age but they were better than nothing at the time.  If we could get a solid source for a preservation it would be cool as hell.

Image has the rights to the post-Corman New World catalog. We could get a release if only Toho were willing to cooperate. They've always been uncooperative with Anchor Bay/Lakeshore, and I even think they once claimed that they have full ownership of G85, and New World library owners had/have no claim to it.

Is Toho just angered by the U.S. recut?

Curious about this as well. Wasn't there a Warner logo at the end of the Monsters HD print, meaning that Warner has/had US tv rights and possibly originated the HD scan/print. The rights situation on this one is confusing and makes me wonder who is responsible for the HD print of the New World version.
