Perfectly agreed---I don't beleive we should be burning fossil fuels at this alarming rate--But many significant advancements are being brought forward--the thing I hate is how people are using the idea and theroy of global warming as the excuse for these advancements.

Well, not just that, but the whole "punish America" attitudes that are brought out of this. It's a manufactured scare tactic to take away America's wealth and spend it on programs that really wouldn't make a wit of difference anyway. Why is America targeted when countries like China and India (BIG polluters) are not required to sign the Kyoto treaty? I don't get that!

So, I just see it as a bunch of people with dollar signs in their eyes who know they can get America to feel guilty for just about anything and cough up the cash. Then the little leeches scuttle under their rocks until they can conjure up yet another monster-shouting scam.

What's funny just a few decades ago Time magazine was monster-shouting about the impending doom of another ice-age. Could these people please make up their minds?

Global Warming is, of course, a very contrversial topic. All I can really say is that the earth's temperatures and climate have shifted and changed a lot over history, and the kinds of weird temperatures and changes we are experiancing were probably experianced by people in pre historic times, but they didn't try to pass it off with a bunch of guilt tripping and doomsday theories. Whatever the case, global warmnig or not, there will be another Ice Age. Not soon, but there will be. We are in an interglacial, a period between ice ages. Global Warming is simply temperature fluxuations that are natural. We aren't helping things with burning fossil fuels or producing greenhouse gasses, but the effect of them will take hundreds and hundreds of years, or at least a helluva lot longer than the media says. Like I said in my earlier post, Global Warming is a big publicity stunt. The Media can keep us interested with it, and can make us give lots of money with all the guilt tripping that gets dumped on us. If Hybrid cars are so great for the enviroment, why don't they give them out for free? Sure, you'd lose lots of money, but if the enviroment is so much more important than cash, then money is no object. If Al Gore had really wanted to change the world with his two hour power point presentation, he would have let people in for free, to educate them on Global Warming without making them pay for it. Someone in one of my science classes said how Hybrid Cars are so great because they are good for the enviroment. I pointed out that most people can't afford them, and this person just replied with "Anything to stop GLobal Warming..." If this is the mindframe people are in, then it is truly sad. We will willingly fork over shitloads of money to "stop Global Warming." But do the people who recieve this money have to give money out, in proportion to the money recieved, to stop global warming?

In Michael Crichton's novel "State of Fear," he presents the theory that the Media wants to keep us all in a strict state of fear, hence the title of the book. He shows how the theory of Global Warming was revealed shortly (within a month) after the end of the Cold War. If the Cold War is over, what can the media keep the world in a State of Fear about? Cue Global Warming. Hell, I think when we're all gone, our ancestors won't even be hearing abotu Global Warming. They'll be hearing about the next big Media Stunt. Aliens on a collision course with earth, or some bullshit like that.

Of course, no matter what I say, I can't stop people set on Global Warming to stop believing in it. It's more like a faith, a huge emotion, then scientific fact or logic anymore.

Darth_Evil, I'm SO glad you brought up "State of Fear." One of the most easily accessible pieces of anti-global warming information out there. I actually transcribed the essay in the back of the book, "Why Politicized Science is Dangerous", as a Myspace blog a while back. Would anyone want me to copy/paste it here?

So you're an early-age Michael Crichton reader too? Awesome! I first discovered his writing when I read "Jurassic Park" back in sixth grade, and I've been hooked ever since.

Yeah, I enjoy Crichton's writing too. I also became a fan when I first read Jurrasic Park. I have never read State of Fear, but I remember reading an article in "Parade" by Crichton back when it was first published, at the time I thought that I should pick it up when it comes out in paperback but I had forgotten about it until now. That one is now on my list of books to read in the next few months.

It's interesting you bring up Pearl Harbor, because in recently declassified documents, it turns out that we knew that was coming too, and allowed it to happen so the American people would be incited enough to allow the president to get involved in the war.

It's interesting when a government allows something tragic like that to happen for the purposes of manipulating it's own people to get behind whatever the current administration wants to squeak through Congress.

But as long as you are good with "well I don't know for sure so I'll just assume our government wouldn't lie to us -again- over something as serious as this", then who's gonna stop them?

Well, other than the fact im a hard hitter rightest...hmm.......
Well.........I understand that the president at the time-had hints and leads----but from my point of view---what were they supposed to do? Even if they knew it would happen----it would make not much diffrence if stations all over the pacific were put on a battle alert---the Japs still would have attacked, and we still would have lost men, and the american people would still be angry, and we would still have gone to war with Germany also.

Gomer, I have a cousin who works for the milatary deciphering codes and incoming messages from other countries. He told us at a family reunion that the U.S.A is threatened every day almost every hour in some way but half of the threats are bullshit. So you have to choose which ones to take seriously. He wouldn't tell us anything specific other than that, but he also said that if American's knew of all the threats against us we wouldn't even be able to sleep at night because of fear. America is threatened everyday it is impossible to stop every single one.

So when you choose a side as hard as you have, proof is just a unneccessary luxury?

If we were so careful about which threats we paid attention to, then it's particularly ironic that we chose to ignore the real threat (9-11), and take action on the bogus threat (we thought Iraq had weapons of mass destruction).

All the threats are potential threats including 9/11. The only thing that actually makes 9/11 any different than any other threat is the fact that it actually happened. That is the thing with threats there is no full proof way to determine for 100% which threats are going to happen and which are bullshit. 9/11 has already happened and no amount of crying and whinning is going to change it. The only thing we can do is avenge the people who died by killing the bastards that caused it, and anyone that supports terrorism . Saddam supported terrorism and deserved to die. If it was up to me he would have been ripped limb from limb. Also, we are still searching for Asama Bin Ladan but he is hid in the mountains of Afganistan (sp).Those mountains are full of underground tunnels and caves, and we don't have a big enough military to search all those caves and tunnels, and also fight terrorism, and protect America all at the same time.
