Unfortunately so. Sped up and truncated. Film4 is the most irritating offender in this respect because they time compress films to death, even omitting entire credit sequences that are relevant to the film, whilst marketing themselves as the dedicated film channel.

Sidenote: you think that’s bad? It’s been (more than) the norm in the USA for over 10 years! It’s harder to find a channel that shows the credits at all (outside of a box in the corner) than one that does.

😃 It’s been a long time practice in the UK too - going back to the late 90s (from what I can remember) and prior to that, the leading commercial broadcaster would just remove entire scenes in order to cram in more adverts.

Yes, I’ve seen exactly what you’ve described when I’ve spent time on the other side on the Atlantic. TBS Pan Regional really stood out - the credits for Friends ran accelerated in a window whilst the promos for other broadcasts got underway. I think HBO was one of the few channels where that didn’t happen.

Looks Good?

Should this be what it should look like? I think so… Looks well good

Anyway I wanted to share the Blue (not pink / magenta) Gozer the Gozarian

Cheers not sure if it is really accurate but I think there is something in the cyan tint for sure which the first dvd has.

for some reason that PCM track doesn’t sync up to my blu ray despite having the same duration and is at 23.976 a shame cause it’ sounds pretty good also had to convert it to PCM for it to work in mkvtoolnix corrupt file perhaps?

Unfortunately, this is just a straight rip of the PCM audio from the laserdisc. It would have to be manually resynchronized to match alongside the BD footage.

Tried that seems go start to go out of sync during the electroshock test then gradually worse

tsMuxer didn’t seem to like that file either and I tried to convert it to wav using dBpoweramp and that program didn;t like it either. Just listening to it in isolation, it sounds generally good but there are some cracks and pops here and there.

after comparing to to the ac3 track I prefer the ac3 its more bass heavy and probably closer to the original 70mm mix

Ghostbusters II is on UK Netflix now. Looks like the 2014 Blu Ray master being used.

To me the most current BDs/UHDs for GHOSTBUSTERS I & II look fine as-is. Albiet some weird shifting in color here and there. Both need custom bonus feature discs and it’s the main reason why I’m keeping the 1999 DVD. GHOSTBUSTERS II honestly needs way more features.

Has anyone tried Dr Dre’s colour match tool to match the Ghostbusters 2014 blu-ray to the 1999 DVD? Same could be done for Ghostbusters 2 as well. Curious to see the results. I am without a capable PC at the moment, otherwise would try myself.

That would be something worth looking into if the outcome is good. You’ll hopefully get the colour grading of the 1999 DVD’s but with the clarity of the current Blu Rays. I wouldn’t have a clue where to begin with a project like that myself. Still haven’t obtained the 1080i HDTV version of GBI so if a colour-match happens I’d be on board for that.

I reckon there will be a new release soonish as they found a deleted scenes reel from GB1… Just saying it must be in the pipe for a HDR release

That sky on the picture I posted of the skyscrapers though. I would love to see somone recreate that look from those photos. In moving image.

Made a regrade using HDTV as source; why? Because, even if it has lower quality than BD, it has bigger frame size in the first part of the movie; it could also be used just for the first part, where the frame size is bigger, though…

Wow, that’s pretty cool. Do you have any larger screenshots or small clips with it in motion?

Must do that. Ask for a (brief) clip, and I’ll make it!

Hi ^…^,
Do you have access to a 4k Blu-ray player at all? I have the film on 4k Blu-ray, but I haven’t had time to watch it yet. I’m curious what impact the larger colorspace and dynamic range has on the image. In general, I’ve found the colors of 4k Blu-rays to be very pleasing. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was fantastic.

This is good!

But can we explore this turquoise tint I did a quick test and here is the result.

Settings.

Shadows

Value 108.65
50.44 - 4.62%

Middle

Value 98.08
88.99 - 5.54%

Highlights

Value 78.85%
232.25 - 6.08%

Saturation = -31.76
Contrast = -1.18%
Gain = 17.65%

Contrast Colour
Red = 18.82%
Green = 29.41%
Blue = 15.29%

Gain Color
Red = -18.82%
Green = -3.53%
Blue = 11.76%

Don’t know if anyone agrees with the turquise tint but I definitely think there is something in it. Basically I remember it being like a turqoise look on TV or something and those pictures also have the Turqoise look.

Not saying you should do this at all… But I wonder if there is any agreement on the turqoise as nobody seems to register the possible likely hood it was tinted differently in cinema than home media. Well I made a case for it. Hope somone agrees?

But still Andrea your Regrade looks really good. I am not saying the settings I used are right either but It might be a pointer towards getting it looking right somewhat?

When I did that test clip I had higher contrast then changed my mind it needed more contrast and re-upped a changed version with increased contrast.

But looking at Lewis shirt it is blown in mine not in yours. So I would say it must be less contrast and you are on the right track but I would say it is resting in the blue / green contrast and it might be worth bringing the gain down overall on the master and increasing contrast master.

But other than that I think this is really good.

Very close my thoughts definitely rest in the gain master and contrast master settings.

Just to add I would reduce green gain in the test clip I did. But anyway I think I have given you good trade off options. Honestly I think there is more to get from it but it does not make your regrade bad at all I just think there is still more to get from it.

Does anyone at all have (and would be willing to share) the 1080i HDTV rip of Ghostbusters which has the 1999 DVD colour grading?
