So for those who don't know, Ghostbusters 2 blu-ray has been released in the UK now, and on September 16th for the US.
I wonder how the new GB2 blu-ray compares to the HDTV broadcast, and whether the contrast etc is the same or improved?
Anyway, quite a few cinemas are playing an anniversary showing of GB1 (not sure about GB2) in 4K - probably the same 4K transfer which they trialed in 2011 before the 2013 4K blu-ray release. If it is indeed the same, please go see this - you won't be disappointed. Ghostbusters looks amazing on the big screen, especially in 4K.

Well if you get screen caps of the hdtv with time stamps i could get caps from the new BD for ya.

Since Ghostbusters 2 now looks fantastic on BD, it would be awesome to get the LD PCM synced to it.
Anyone up to it?

GB2 is also available on HDTV with a different color grading than the BD...

Yes!!! :-D I have!! Actually my first time seeing one of my favorite movies in theaters... I'm lucky enough to have seen it in a theater with 4K projection... And it looks absolutely fantastic. The colors are absolutely vibrant and gorgeous. And even though it's not the original mix, the audio was great too! :-D

I just came back from a screening of Ghostbusters.
The big reveal of Mr. Stay-Puft thundering through Columbus Circle is still one of the best — and funniest — shots in the film.
Also, on the big screen it's easier to see the room service lady try to extinguish a flaming toilet paper roll with her little spray bottle, a background gag that usually gets lost on television dimensions.

I saw it on a XD cinema screen Thursday night. It thankfully looked like film. Grain was intact, which I'm sure the clueless elsewhere will complain about. I was a little surprised how soft some of the original photography was. Shots in the second half of the film were much sharper.
There was one optical FX element wobbling right before Mr. Staypuft steps on the church. Everything else held up pretty well for a thirty year old film. I guess 35mm release prints concealed a lot of warts.
The colors on things like the library ghost, and the proton beams were vivid and beautiful.
For some reason, I never noticed Slimer has a huge buttcrack before. O_O
I think I've tuned out all the not so subtle Coke product placement all these years, (they owned Columbia at the time) but it's there. ;)
The soundtrack was respectful for a remix, (although I'm sure GB had a 70mm release?) and I didn't detect any modern meddling. For the first time, I was able to make out what tv show is overheard when the guys are searching the Sedgewick Hotel hallways.
For those of you who have never seen it, here's Zuul on Saturday Night Live in 1986. ;)

Silverwook summed up my impressions of the presentation. Colors were solid, the grain structure is present, there were some parts where the image displayed anamorphic softness. It looked like a good print of the film, only more stable.

Giving this thread a bump for those who wish to carry on with the discussion started in the 'Fan Edits of Other Films' section about a possible colour-correct or preservation of the theatrical colour-timing.
If anyone has the 1080i HDTV broadcast of the 1999 transfer it would be interesting to see some screenshots to compare with the 1999 DVD and blu-ray.
One thing that still intrigues me, is how the Criterion laserdisc compares to all the other releases. If anyone has that, and can post screenshots of the transfer, it would be great to see.

It seems that the pre-4K BD color grading is similar to old DVD (and maybe HDTV):
