So, has anyone ever captured this?  I’d love to take a listen to it, perhaps muxed with the Blu-ray.  I’m working on getting the LD myself but I don’t have the proper capture equipment.

Interesting - is there anything about the Criterion's track that sets it apart from the standard Columbia release?

In any event, a decent preservation of the theatrical stereo would be very welcome. I note that there was also a 70mm 6-track mix back in the day, though I'm having a hard time finding any details - it was likely one of those cases where the actual content of the mix differs little from the stereo. If anyone knows any better please chime in...

I have heard its 35mm optical track, and if the PCM track is anything like that on either the Criterion or Columbia release, it's breathtakingly good.

I'd imagine and hope the 70mm was similar, just discrete.  I remember the original DVD having a nice 5.1 track, but the Blu-ray just doesn't feel the same.  And honestly, the 35mm presentation I heard blew that Blu-ray away.

I DO have the Criterion release of Ghostbusters but I'm not sure if I know how to capture the PCM track. If anyone can help me it I'd certainly give it a try.

Cheers!!!!

I saw the original theatrical release in stereo Analog optical probably Dolby Processed and the blu ray and original DVD don't come close.

I'd be very interested in hearing that as well. It's a shame though that the Blu-ray's colour timing is a tad off

saying that, it's better than the remastered DVD that got released. Still got my 1999 DVD for the MST3K style commentary

That's a really good comparison site.  I have a 1080i HDTV capture of Ghostbusters, which has the same colour as the original DVD but much more detail.  It's an MPEG2 capture, but only around 8GB, so there is some macroblocking.  I can post some captures if anyone's interested.

Anyway, it would be great to hear the original stereo mix.

Edit: I also used to own the (genuine) superbit dvds, but they have the same colour issues as the remastered dvd and the blu-ray.

I still own the Japanese Superbit DVD's. I thought they were mastered from the non-remastered edition?

It would be great if you'd share the 1080i HDTV capture.  I'd love to see it.

I didn't know these were available anywhere .... they'd be cool to see as well.

Agreed on the 1080i HDTV. I'd love to see that.

The version HDNet Movies has shown more recently is sourced from the 2005 master, meaning it has all the flaws of the later DVD, including that green tint superimposed over Slimer.

I'd also be interested to see the 1080i screen captures.

Does the Criterion edition have a different colour timing to the 1999, 2005 DVDs and blu-ray? I've got Ghosbusters on laserdisc but not the Criterion one.

The CAV Criterion I've got has a film look to it.  I'm not sure if they used a print or an IP for it's transfer but it is my go to version of the movie every time.

Is anyone actually in a position to do this? I have the tech (just about) but not the disc. And no-one's selling in the UK at present, sadly.

I'd love to help you out as I live in the UK but I don't have the Criterion edition. :-(

I have the LD.  I have an external soundcard, EMU 0202 USB.  Apparently it does not resample the audio.

If I could get some direction on how to connect it properly so that I could do the capture I'd certainly take a whack at it.

Wow. I'm floored. An HD version of Ghostbusters without contrast blowout.

Together with the Back to the Future and Roger Rabbit threads, this is yet more proof that all these pre-BluRay HDTV rips need to be found and preserved.

*drools*

This is like the perfect HD version of Ghostbusters. I really disliked the lame contrast boosting in the Blu-ray.

This is the way I remember it always looking!

There is more detail in the BD is it not worth sorting out the contrast on that?
