I don't think I will have the need to burn dual layer DVD's.

It's on the way. Ordered it this past Saturday. Will be here on or before the 17th.

Got the 20" 2.4 Dual-Core intel iMac

Looking forward to fiddling with it, even if it is for the kids.

Or just buy a good computer for half the money.

.

This is mostly about getting the best learning machine for them. They can learn Mac OS and Windows in one shot on a Mac, whereas I have no real interest outside of curiosity using the Mac. I've no doubt I'll be using it when they go to bed, but they'll be the primaries. If they're not then it goes to my office Who knows? If I like it maybe I'll get one for myself next year.

Eeew, Dell... *shudder*.

What game is that the Mac is playing? It looks a lot like Super Mario World, but I know SMW quite well and some things just arn't quite right. Not to mention there is no sprite.

The doors look like the Kirby level select.

Ah, Kirby. I've never played any of the Kirby games, but I guess that explains why it looks a bit like Super Mario World.

NOT EVEN CLOSE. EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT DELL IS THE K*MART BRAND OF COMPUTERS.

You aren't lying. Dells suck!! Hehe, if it were not for the Kirby screen shot and the 3D army game pasted under each computer, that picture would look like it was made to defend the Mac. Look at how nice it looks, no wires all over the place, then the crappy Dell, with its massive tower and the every annoying mess of cords.

That was what the original picture was meant for.

And at my University, pretty much all they use is super-powered Dells chock full of massive computing power. If it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me.

Well, I got the iMac in and fired it up yesterday. Had some crashes early on, of the type where the OS says "You need to restart your computer". Have no idea why they happened, though on the last one the unit would not boot back up. I reseated the keyboard and mouse and it seems to be fine now. Still learning the ins-and-outs of the OS and applications. I love the interface and the hardware design, that's for sure.

Anyone have trouble with the airport connection interfering with existing wireless connections? Or anyone have a lot of drops with airport?

IF YOU ARE RUNNING ON THE LEOPARD OS THEN YOU'RE ALREADY GETTING THE SOFTWARE UPDATES. THE UPDATES NOW AUTOMATICALLY DOWNLOAD IN THE BACKGROUND. SOME OF THEM NEED YOU TO RESTART THE COMPUTER. MORE THAT LIKELY THIS IS WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH YOUR iMAC. IF YOU HAVE ANY MAC QUESTIONS AT ALL FEEL FREE TO PM OR EMAIL ME. I CAN ANSWER PRETTY MUCH ALL OF THEM. Thanks Dayv. It seems to be much more stable now, with the exception of the wireless connection. It will work fine for a while, then drop. It's strange because my router is in my basement, and I get good connection on the third floor of the house. However the iMac is on the 2nd floor and is having trouble. Not sure what's going on. Going to see if I can test the signal in some way.

I also need to call them because I never received a serial number for iWork and I did pay for it.

That's the Mac equivalent of the BSOD. The only difference is that it's pretty. If you want the full gory details of what exactly happened, you'll have to change a configuration so it'll tell you. It's about the equivalent of a "spontaneous" reboot that XP sometimes does in a default install.
