George Lucas says that the original versions of SW will probably be released on DVD — Page 2

Perhaps his restoration comment meant that he won't bother releasing the movie with a new soundtrack, so instead we'll have to be stuck with the original mix. Oh boo-hoo.

Well at least the reversed surround channels have been addressed.

The Star Trek : Enterprise TV show fans were able to raise $3 million toward a new season. Does anyone here think we could do something similar for the restoration costs of the OOT?

With the amount of people we have on here, we could get by with everyone paying a minimal amount into a large fund. If everyone contributed that is.

I actually think that he will restore them. He seems to lie ALOT.

I think George Lucas has gotten enough money from us over the 20+ years we've devoted to him. Out of respect for his fans, they should be remastered and released. That's the only way he'll get any money out of me.

i think the majority of fans should stop whining if lucas releases the OT on DVD. its a joke if they still whine.

If he releases them.....you will never hear a peep from me about the subject again.

As for the cost of restoring the OOT for DVD release....I remember reading an article a while back which LucASS said that each movie would cost 10 million to restore. So that's 30 million total, no small change. And he said he definitely wouldn't do it cuz he didn't want to put the money into it or the effort.

So....there you have it. But someone had asked Rick McCallum at Celebration 3 about getting the OOT on DVD and he said that the people at LucASSfilm wanted to release it, but LucASS was sitting on it. So he's the one who's holding it up. If it does see the light of day, it will be a cheapie release guarenteed!!!

He better release it on DVD or there'll be hell to pay. LucASS should bend easily to threats.

10 million!

What exactlly does he need to do to remaster them, line the film with platinum and jewels? I don't know, that seems like a lot of money to clean them up, but what do I know. Maybe someone can shed some light on why he can't just remaster the parts that were cut, then re-edit them back into the film, replacing the Special Edtion scenes with the originals. It doesn't seem overly complicated, or all that exspensive, at least ... not $10 million dollars worth.

I'd be curious to see how much the 2004 trilogy on DVD made, total profits worldwide.

I have to agree with Shimraa solely because the term LucASS is just starting to get really annoying.

Here's one just for Shimraa. lucass! He doesn't even know about this site so who cares if we insult him. Like he's really sitting there going "oh they just called me lucass again, no OT on DVD". LOL. Barney.

Don't get me wrong. I still think Lucas needs great amounts of therapy, but don't you think we could do better than "LucASS"?

i'm still a bit of a noob so maybe this'll change, but every time I read LucASS, it still makes me smile.

as for the OOT, i don't get why he can't just restore the relevant sections of the OOT and splice them into the clean version of the SSE from the DVD release. (that's a lot of three-letter acronyms!) unless the SSEs have transformed the films to the point where they're not recognizable as the originals...

and personally, i'd be happy if he just put them out without a major restoration. a minor restoration HAS to run much cheaper, or better yet, no restoration at all. or just use the LD source.

him putting them out would be an admission that they exist, which is to me the biggest hurdle here, that he insists on eradicating film history for the sake of his "vision."

What's this about the LD versions missing Leia's welding scene, by the way?

I thought I read that somewhere.

Cute F.O.T.T.

However, if we present Lucas with the petition. He will know about this site.

The early sets of the Definitive Collection are only missing a few seconds.

Ah, thanks.

Are some of the other projects going on trying to fix this?

I've e-mailed Rikter about getting the OT on DVD-R. I wonder what versions he'll send me, maybe TR-47, are his missing these few seconds?

yeah of course he doesnt know about this site, its just a site that has a petion with 70000 sigs on for him to release the OT. Fans dont be so ignorant, i would bet money that he knows of this site so just to talkin before you hurt yourself.

if he ever did release the OT is wouldnt be for money it would be for whiners like you, cause it wouldnt make even a fraction of the amount that he already has. you know i often wonder if he is not releasing it just to spite the whiners, he wants to see how angery he can make people.

None of the TR47 versions are missing any footage. There was a 4 second blank spot because of an overlooked laserdisc side change on the first TR47 release of TESB, but I fixed that.

As far as I know, the only version that is missing the welding footage is the Dr. Gonzo version.

You mean you fixed your own copies of TR47's TESB by yourself, or the copies available now have been fixed?

If Lucas releases digitally remastered print of the OOT without the the tech mistakes of the 2004 version on DVD, then I will never complain about him again.
