I can't agree more. If you're a fan of bizarre, freaky, funny stuff, then you gotta see this for yourself. I mean, talk about a camp classic! And that sing along with Princess Leia at the end always brings a tear to my eye.

For everyone else, it also introduces Boba Fett for the first time.

Spaceballs is a great movie. That was one of the first DVDs I ever bought. Mel Brooks is an absolute genius.
Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, Spaceballs, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, The Producers, Silent Movie, History of the World Part 1 all are amazing(ly funny) movies.

Harrumph, in any case it's completely different from Spaceballs. Spaceballs is a real movie for one thing, and the Holiday special is a variety musical program.

Brooks at his best is a genious, and even though Spaceballs is far from his best, I hope it gets a better release on DVD. I can't wait for the Blazing Saddles Special Edition later this year!

Spaceballs is a great movie! If I were to compare the Holiday special with Spaceballs I'd have to pick Spaceballs. But its a hard comparison to make considering that the Holiday special is not really a movie

it was a must see for any Star Wars fan... but i must agree its not Brooks at his finest...
ive always been a fan of the History of the World Part 1...

i havent seen it in ages though...

Spaceballs was funny but I would hardly call it a movie. Its really a spoof of science fiction and a pretty good one. From what I hear the Star Wars Holiday special isn't funny just lame musical. While I don't find anything appealing about music numbers the Holiday special does have deleted scenes for A New Hope and the Boba Fett cartoon. I think it would be great if he could put that cartoon as an extra on the Clone Wars cartoon DVD. There would be more then enough bit room considering all 20 shorts come out to around one hour. Those deleted scenes should also be on the trilogy DVD set later this year.

Jimbo, Spaceballs is a movie you don't have to like it but it is a movie. It was released in theaters.

You hate Mel Brooks films !!??!! I mean, you have every right to, but how can you hate Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, The producers (my favorite ) , and Spaceballs they're great movies man! ....but its alright, to each his own

I liked Spaceballs better than the prequels.

I'm still hoping to see The Hidden Fortress soon. I'm also planning on seeing several of Kurosawa's other films as soon as I can.

Did anyone read the news over at The Digital Bits about THX-1138 coming to DVD later this year with over 100 new effects shots. Man, does Lucas hate everything he has ever done in the past or what? I have more respect for remakes than Lucas' tinkering. At least the remakes never take the place of the original films they were based on.

I didn't wanna continue this arguement, but you asked... so...

I just find Mel Brooks' humor cheap, juvenile, and basically not all that funny. Granted, I do find he's got a few good tricks (I loved the randomly-inserted bear in Spaceballs) but most of the time I just find him dry. An example of this is during the showdown between Lone Starr and Dark Helmet in Spaceballs, where they both put their Schwartz rings over their groin areas and their lightsabers come out, and Dark Helmet makes a comment about their Schwartzes being of equal size. My impression was "Was that supposed to be FUNNY?" as I realized that this was the type of joke that a high school jock would come up with.

That's just my opinion, of course.
