Effect Glitch: Luke could've lopped off the Emperor's head...

I HAD an original VHS copy of ROTJ, I don't anymore, I'm sure somebody out there does, but anyway, before the effects on this movie were altered,in the scene where Luke ignites and takes a swing at the Emperor and Vader "blocks" his attack, Luke's green lightsaber is CLEARLY behind Vader's red. Pause it on the part where the sabers cross and you could see all that Luke has to do is swing ever so slighty to his right and boom, Emp's gone! Vader blocks nothing. Like I said, I'm sure somebody has a tape of this, don't want anyone to think I'm starting on of those "grappling hook" topics, and I'm sorry if this is already common knowledge, but I have searched for this for a while and haven't seen anything. Please confirm.

It can be confirmed, but only for the 2004 version of the film when the lightsabers and other aspects of the trilogy were totally messed up.  Any release of ROTJ on VHS does not have the problem you described.

Yes it does, and ONLY the older VHS copies, in the newer DVD releases, the lightsabers, when they're in front of the Emperor's face and he's laughing, are cut into each other. In the earlier, original prints, the green is next to his face. Someone must have it.

Of course, the order/alignment of the VFX blades isn't necessarily the same as the order of the physical props, particularly when they're cross in such a way that, were the effects looking correctly (ie pre-2004), you couldn't tell.

Yes.

I think the real question is which lightsaber is the one closer to the emperor.  Is it the green one, or is this another grappling hook?

Which is why I'm hoping for a screenshot.

From that, it's actually pretty damn hard to tell which is in front.  It's certainly not an obvious glitch.

This is from the Hyperspace Edit/Restoration:

Ok, we're on track, thank you. But, my copy was probably dubbed by someone from one of the first times it was released on VHS, I did actually point it out to a couple of people years ago, they agreed. If this seems like a wild goose chase, I'll drop the subject, but I saw what I saw and was obsessed over it. MAN, why'd I throw away that copy?!

It is indeed hard to tell.  But it's much clearer they screwed up on the 2004 edition and made it so Luke's actually IS closest to the Emperor (it looks like Luke's saber is actually going through Vader's):

I'm not DoubleOfive, but I think it's the 2006 "official" release of the OOT.  Can't remember what the G stands for though, haha.

GOUT = George's Original Unaltered Trilogy, I believe so named because of the crappy quality version of the OOT (Original Original Trilogy) he stuck us with.

I believe it's sourced from the (1993?) Laserdisc.  But yes, it's the 2006 "bonus" DVDs.

Actually it's because the GOUT is slightly different than the original theatrical trilogy

How so?  That would mean it wasn't "unaltered."

The transfer is flawed and DVNRed, but its as close as you can get to the originals in any quality. I should know.

Assuming your comparisons have been matched to Puggo Grande...

Isn't Puggo technically our most guaranteed-to-be-original, other than the cropping?
Indeed they have. Other than some coloring flaws.
