Funny, I was just thinking about that the other day. Most of the other directors and filmmakers interviewed in Side By Side, if not all of them, didn't have props or imagery of their films in the background or next to them. They were there to just talk shop about filmmaking and digital vs. celluloid.

Lucas apparently stipulated that the only way he would grant Neo an interview was if there were ever so subtle reminders that Lucas created SW placed all over the frame.

“Grow up. These are my Disney's movies, not yours.”

I love puzzles but I can't see these hints of which you speak (any clues?).

I saw this last year. I think it was pretty funny when the others were on some way against Lucas and his changing the films (if I remember correctly). Also this made Lucas was stand out from the other directors and not in a good way IMO.

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

The funny part was at the time George was telling all his peers that they'd find it hard to believe that AOTC was shot in Digital.....and a few of them, when asked, just basically said George jumped in too soon, the Sony cameras just weren't up to scratch and that they had no problems at all believing that the film was shot on video.

I just checked out AOTC on BD and it looks really digital in a bad way - unlike ROTS, which I must admit looks pretty damn good on BD.

Vader's secret apprentice revealed!

Where were you in '77?

I've seen this photo many times over the years. Apparently it was always cropped to avoid showing Greedo in the corner, as it looks like he's dumping his shipment of spice...

That is my new favorite picture. Ever.

Greedo pooped first.

...and so the Emperor Pope retired. I wonder, how many Star Wars fans feel affected?

For me he had at least one virtue: every time I saw him I tried not to giggle... stop that, he doesn't look like Palpatine, not a bit! :D That was my first thought when I first saw him... how awkward did I feel! Luckily I immediately discovered - thanks to the Internet - that people all over the world noticed the same (what a relief it was :D ).

Remember fondly Papa Ratzi, the only Palpatine-lookalike pope.

I saw the original theatrical release of the Old Trilogy on the big screen and I'm proud of it...
How did I accomplish that (considering my age) is my secret...

Next in line, Pope Ackbar: the monsignor from Mon Calamari!

Did anyone ever have one of these ?

I remember seeing these in a toy shop. Basically a torch with a tube on the end. One of the first un-official toys ?

But he doesn't look like Palpatine, not at all.

Sidious on the other hand ...

There were a lot of flashlights with plastic tubes and whatnot stuck on the end in late '77. Kenner's own official product wasn't much better, except for the inflated blade.

Kids have it so good now, they don't even have to make weird buzzing noises when pretend saber fighting. ;)

It goes without saying that Kenner weren't happy :

Great stuff. Never seen that letter before.

Kenner used the same stationery for the form letter they sent me when I wrote them suggesting several toy ideas. ;)

I recall the legal wrangling over knock off toys. Since the concept of a "laser sword" had been around in scifi for a long time, they probably could only really go after anyone misusing the character likenesses and logos. I had a glow in the dark sword circa '78 that was probably a recycle of a mold for a more earthbound blade.

Kenner used to put a little (tm) or © after every mention of a character name or phrase in the text of their catalogs and packaging.

I'm still amazed George got "droid" copyrighted.
