How can Ur be a big meanie? It's an ancient Sumerian city-state -- an inanimate object with no thoughts or feelings.

Perhaps he means it in the German sense? "Ur-a-big-meanie"... i.e., a big meanie whose existence predates some other, younger, somewhat less big meanie.
You know, like the fish in the oceanic core of Naboo.

Well, we did not have Chem trails (as seen at the 0:30 mark) back in 1978!

That was fun!
And let's not diverge into non SW conspiracy theories here. ;)
Where were you in '77?
Okay here's a SW conspiracy for you (totally bonkers).
I am reminded of that time Harmy re-edited Puggo to make the long remembered missed swing of the grapple.
If you humans will insist on playing with large hard-on colliders :-D

Should this be in the spoiler thread?
Why? It's not spoiling TFA in any way.

It might! JJ could have been planning for his SW film for a long time.
(Just a joke)

The Death Valley N.P. filming locations for Star Wars and Return of the Jedi are only about an hour and a half away from my house. Now that the weather is cooling down, I was thinking about taking a drive out there in a few weeks. Have any of you been to these locations? I'll be sure to post photos from my expedition when completed.

Never been there, but perhaps you'll find bits of the set that have been buried since 1982. :)
I've had the urge to seek out and photograph the Van Nuys warehouse that ILM once called home, but it's been a miserably hot summer.

Because it needs repeating...
Separated at birth? ;)

^Both were created by the same Anti-God, at least.

Was in Target to grab some groceries this evening. They sure do have a lot of Star Wars stuff now! I think half the Halloween costumes are Star Wars. And some prequel characters are represented.
Will be interesting to see how many people dress up as characters from a movie that won't be out until Christmas time.
I also saw an "angry teddy bear" mask that looks like a crazed Ewok.
Almost impulse bought an Artoo kitchen timer, but I have two ordinary timers already.
I didn't linger in the toy aisle too long to avoid accidental spoilers, but the BB-8 display was neat. And those four foot tall(!) action figures made me a little envious that Kenner never thought of such a thing way back when.
Much to my surprise, they had cheap lookalike electronic lightsabers in the dollar section. I recall Fox going after such copycat items in the old days, and considering the real deal is on the other side of the store, it's a little strange. I'm sure Disney isn't going to like it.

You have read that issue of Star Wars Tales, right? ;)
This is also the reason Peter Mayhew was warned not to go wandering off in costume while they were filming in the Northern California Redwoods for ROTJ.

That looks awesome !
The closest locations to me, here in the U.K are from The Phantom Menace. The Naboo woodland and the deleted waterfall scene. So I am quite jealous. I have been to the Matmata location in Tunisia though. Please keep us updated on your adventure.
The "One Last Time" campaign was a warning. We might've been able to prevent the damage to cinema they'd been planning! Someone should've, I dunno, seized the negatives and gave them straight to the National Film Registry.
But... if they didn't get their copy when it was first started up, and the Special Edition was what they were offered first, then it can only mean one thing: the Special Editions were an inside job! Could it be that George was telling the truth when he talked about his "original" vision???
I mean my God! Movies are not like cars! You can't just retire them in favour of remakes!
Ol’ George has the GOUT, I see.

Isn't this less "Random" and more "Theatrical Cuts vs Special Editions"?
That said, I tend to mostly believe that George's original vision for the trilogy was godawful, and it was only through the fortunate graces of pragmatism, budget and time constraints, technological limitations, and George not yet being considered infallible by his co-creators that we actually ended up with the great films they were. If anything, the Special Editions put an underline under Marcia Lucas' Oscar for Editing, because we got to see what happened without it.
But he also makes it up as he goes along: consider Luke's scream or lack of scream falling into the chasm in Empire. Obviously his original vision, if it even exists, is malleable.

Shawn's given me a thought: did no one think to release Star Wars on D-VHS?
Ol’ George has the GOUT, I see.
*sigh* What could have been. I'd imagine that had Lucasfilm paid attention to D-VHS, the situation would be similar to the VCDs, in that we would have received the 98se and the theatrical cut of TPM, while AOTC and ROTS would get the DVD/HDTV transfer.
