That still doesn't get him off the hook for the Laserdisc wisecrack. ;)

Hopefully now that John Boyega is the male lead of Ep7, Star Wars casting agents will at last get bold enough to let more than one person of color be visible on-screen per movie.

Personally, I'm still holding out for Asian actors to show up in the live-action GFFA. After all, GL did want to get Toshiro Mifune as Ben Kenobi..

Oscar winner Lupita Nyongo is in TFA as is newcomer Maisie Richardson, both black. Don't know how big their roles are though (AND DON'T WANT TO). It's also worth noting that Oscar Isaac is hispanic.

The lack of asian representation is strange, especially considering the heavy Japanese influence on the saga. Maybe in another new movie. Wasn't there a rumor about a martial arts actor getting cast for Rogue One?

Would you look at that... two asian actors in Rogue One.

Maurissa Tancharoen is not going to like that.

Why not?

Because nobody's Asian in the movies, nobody's Asian on TV.  If there is a part there for them it's the groupie in the chorus, that's her.

I was thinking that Rocket Raccoon was based on Jaxxon but I just looked it up and the latter pre-dates the former so maybe it's the other way around? I understand Jaxxon is mainly inspired by Bugs Bunny, but why else would he call himself a "rocket rabbit"? That's not a common expression (Rocket Raccoon is based off the Beatles's "Rocky Raccoon"). Also they're basically the same character, just different type of rodent.

Also, it's kind of sad how short lived Jaxxon was (had to look it up, 16 was his last issue - I'm now 25 issues after that and never got to say goodbye...). At the same time, I wonder if I would even care about him if he wasn't such an infamous character. And why is that? Because he's silly? I think he fits the Marvel SW universe rather well. Is it because he was so short lived?

Maybe you just have bad taste. =P

Rocket Raccoon's first appearance was in 1976. (No matter what the AMC show Comic Book Men believes.)  I would care about Jax even if George hadn't pressured Marvel to drop him from the book. I guess he was cool with Hedji, the porcupine alien who could shoot quills from his body, or it didn't matter since Hedji was killed off.

That Jaxxon was too out there for the man who gave us Jar Jar makes me love him even more. ;)

Rocket Rabbit might be a subtle reference to the cartoon where Bugs was shot in a rocket to the moon and encountered Marvin the Martian for the first time.

*sigh* Now I'm wishing Jaxxon had stayed around long enough to do battle with a Marvin the Martian analogue.

But, without the Asians in the movies, without Asians on TV, who’d play the goofy mathematician? The computer technician? A wise old healer from Japan? A short but wealthy businessman? Sell Korean groceries? Do your laundry, "thank you, prrease"?

I heard about Carrie Fisher being in this new-ish sitcom called 'Catastrophe'. So I put "Catastrophe Carrie Fisher" into the YouTube search but it just came back with general videos about Carrie Fisher... huh.

Did Adywan release a colour-corrected version of A New Hope?

Ol’ George has the GOUT, I see.

Why does the abomination above exist, anyway? Didn't Furbies pretty much go the way of the dodo after 1999?

They were revived a couple years ago. I don't think the LCD eyes are as creepy as the originals though.

Surprised they didn't bring back the Yoda furby. I had one for a while, but it was disturbing when the skin began to crack and split. (Although I've heard  later versions don't have skin issues.) Jedi masters should not remind one of the crypt keeper.

I'm still waiting for Teddy Ruxpin to make a comeback. ;)

 Do you need an invite?

That's not what this thread is for, and neither is that.

My little sister got a furby as a gift one Christmas and she hated it so she hid it in a cabinet in the living room. Six months later I was looking for something or other and I opened that door and it opened its eyes and said "Hello!" since then I am not down with furby in any way shape or form.

I've just learned that a major plot-critical cutscene in LucasArts' Jedi Knight (1997) was actually taken almost wholesale from a 1970s porn flick.

There are no words.

“That Darth Vader, man. Sure does love eating Jedi.”

Do tell? Game designers do all sorts of strange things to blow off steam.

The film in question is Flesh Gordon, a 1974 porn parody of the 30s Flash Gordon serials.

At one point, there's a spaceship crash which "Flesh" Gordon just barely walks away from. The special effects used in this scene are quite uncannily close to the the cutscene in Jedi Knight where Kyle Katarn crashes the Moldy Crow after escaping from Jerec's doomed cargo ship.

(Insert your own joke about the relationship between Star Wars and Flesh Gordon here.)

While the relationship was no doubt consensual, it was premarital, possibly polyamorous, and regarded as distasteful by the parents of both parties.

Thank you -- I'll be here all week.
