So I hear that Heath Ledger is the Joker for the new Batman sequel, titled The Dark Knight.

What do y'all think think of this?
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

I wanted to see Mark Hamill or Michael Keaton play the Joker, but Heath Ledger is a good actor so I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do with the role.

Indeed. He *is* the voice of the Joker in the minds of many.

Heh, that would look funny. If they could make it not look like crap, it could be good.

Interesting. I would kill to see Mark Hamill talking in his Joker voice in the booth.

But isn't it a little late to have Michael Keaton play the Joker now after having played Batman almost 20 years ago?

Maybe Michael Keaton could play Batman in the movie version of Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns."

It take y'all are also fans of Batman: The Animated Series and the DCAU?

Well, I don't necesarily think the Joker needs to be played by somebody young - Jack Nicholson was almost 60. And the fact that Keaton was Batman is kinda the point. I think it would be very cool, and we know he can do psycho.

And when I say I want to see Hamill as the Joker, I mean I want to see him actually acting in the movie, not just the voice. And again, some might comment on his age but I don't think it matters, plus makeup can work wonders.

I wasn't saying that the Joker had to be played by someone young, I'm just saying it feels odd to have the former Batman actor take up the role of the Joker, even though I'm sure that in another life Keaton would have made a fine Joker.

How is the "the fact that Keaton was Batman" is "kinda the point"?

And Mike_0, yes, many of us here are fans of the DCA Batman: The Animated Series.

Count me in as a fan of the Batman AS as well, it is the basis of comparison for everything Batman related to me.

I think that MH would of been a great Joker. Another person who I think would of been a good choice would be Crispin Glover. I heard that he was rumored to be considered at one point for the role.

Yeah, I bet that would have been great. He would have played it really intensely.

Yeah, Crispin Glover as the Joker would have been neat. Of course, I always thought Glover would have made a great Scarecrow, but it looks like that ship has sailed.

It's just kinda ironic.

That's complex. I really don't think that Keaton would fit the role.

...but Heath Ledger is a good actor so I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do with the role.

In the Knight's Tale days, I'd have shuddered, but after Brokeback, I can see that he has matured into an exceptional actor. Hamill keeps being brought up, huh? Any DCAU fans here?

Many of us are DCAU fans. Whenever I read a Batman comic, and I read Batman's dialogue, I hear Kevin Conroy's voice in my head.

Kevin Conroy was a great Batman. He was also a pretty kickass Bruce Wayne as well. I really can't say enough about that, except that the first few seasons of the Animated Series was just perfect... until FOX had to stick its nosy business into it.

Even so, the first Batman: The Animated Series which ran 1992-1995 is still far & away the best of the DCAU shows. Best writing. Best animation. Best of everything. Which is not to say I didn't enjoy the animated series of Superman and the Justice League, because it was great to see more variety of characters and all, it's just that overall I think Timm & Dini's first Batman series was their best.

Kevin Conroy was indeed a great Bruce Wayne/Batman, otherwise it wouldn't be his voice I hear when reading Batman comics. I wonder what'll become of him now that the DCAU appears to be finished and they've got that new guy Rino something doing the young Batman on the vastly inferior "The Batman"...

Yeah, I'm not too fond of The Batman. I am, however, probably one of the few people who likes the character being preceded by the definite article, as it is what he was called in the 1943 serial. For some reason it just sounds cooler to me. But, anyway, the animation of The Batman just looks weird. Bruce Wayne/The Batman's head looks kinda deformed. And it just lacks the darkness and feeling of importance that the original Animated Series had. I feel sorry for today's kids sometimes.

It's a step up from The Batman, but when they had the animation change for the original animated series, most of the characters ended up coming out like they'd been put through the wringer. I think the only character who still looked cool was Batman himself... maybe even slightly cooler, but it's debatable. Everyone else, especially The Joker and every female character, just looked disgusting in comparison to their early-to-mid '90s version.

I'm referring to the shift from Batman: The Animated Series to The Adventures of Batman and Robin, which I do believe was a decision from higher up in order to safeguard the kiddies by having Robin's constant presence lighten the mood. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Robin, and I really liked that version of Robin and didn't mind the switch, but it does kinda wrinkle my nose when a network starts demanding a shift in the direction of the show, and I think it was simply the first nail that led to the horrible animation shift later on with the WB.
