Over here we have three options: gasoline, this uh.. propane butane whatever gas thing, and a special kind of alcohool (which was created here during the early 70s due to the oil shortage). Gasoline is the most expensive, and it gets more expensive every single day. We produce, like, 75% of the oil we consume. What worries me is the other 25%...

BTW, don't you worry. Iraqi people are paying for the re-construction of their cities (which were destroyed by this war no one talks about anymore) with... OIL! Well, it'll be extremly overprice, but oh who cares eh?

I live in England. Gas here is over 85p per litre. That's more than $1.50 a litre in American money, actually, probably more like $1.60, whichs equals $6-6.50 a gallon, so stop your complaining, go kill a few more arabs, and you'll get your cheap fuel.

Around here gas prices are like $2.15. 'Tis utterly ridiculous.

Count your blessings, Chaltab. It's currently sitting between 2.25 and 2.45 here in Chicagoland.

I want hydrogen cell cars!!!!

$2.20 per gallon - and the gas is from New Mexico!

Its been roughly $2.35 around Cleveland. Ahh, the benefits of walking to work. Not only do I get exercise every day, but I save money on gas.

JediSage,
Actually, no amount of oil from ANWR or anywhere else is going to help. Part of gas prices being so high is the fact that no refineries have been built in the US in the last 20 years. The one's in operation now are at 100% capacity.

Blame the tree-hugging freaks that don't want the added pollution. But it not all them. There is also the average citizen and their 'not-in-my-backyard' mentality.

Another refinery HAS to go up some time though, to replace the one in Texas that blew up this past month.

Drilling in Alaska will only help so much, though.

We need to hurry up and invent a mister fusion to power our cars!

What a great way to get rid of garbage. I'd do it.

I recall seeing, I think it was on History Channel, a story about a fusion technique that has been tested and successful, but far too short lived to actually work for now.

The system uses lasers that it splits and focuses. They fire the split, focused laser into a chamber of hydrogen atoms, and it is actually enough for fusion. It was probably an exaggeration, but I think they said they could power the laser with a 9V battery.

The energy output from the reaction was enough, they said, to power the entire Earth several times over, but it lasted for the smallest fraction of a second, so it could not be properly harnessed.

Yeah, I was just joking about drilling in Alaska, although I think there's a huge amount of hipocrsy in the "No dependence on foreign oil!/Don't drill in ANWR!!" crowd.

All I can say is: Thank God we're not dumb enough to still be a Kyoto signatory (for now anyway).

There was this guy who was in the army, in tle late 80s, who came up with a way to move cars with water. People claimed it really worked. He disapeared and was never seen again, along with his models and his prototype. Buried next to Jimmy Hoffa.

Kind of like ol' Nick Tesla, no? Didn't his stuff disappear under mysterious circumstances, too?

Wow....well reasoned, thoughtful response. I drive a 4-cylinder thank you. As usual its the people who drive SUVs that are the source of the world's problems, not the 60 cents in tax our states are charging per gallon for idiot social spending programs.

Uh no, people who drive SUVs are PART of the problem. That's right let's rip the whole Kyoto agreements and step back 20 freaking years back in environmental progress. Why? Because oil companies rule the world and they don't care about the future, they care a bout getting more money out of SUVs drivers (who make fewer miles per gallon as possible).

LOL....You forgot to mention the American Military Industrial Complex, Microsoft, Starbucks, etc; What exactly is Kyoto except a global tax? Kyoto is not about the environment, it's about redistributing wealth ("developing" countries have higher standards thus more latitude, or are exempt outright), otherwise known as socialism.

Rock on JediSage!

Besides, even advocates of the Kyoto agreement admit that it won't have any significant effect on the environment! It is just a token gesture at best and an attack against capitalism at worst.

OK whatever. If you're actually proud of breaking the Kyoto protocol, all I wish is luck to you all.

If you really understand the Kyoto protocol then you should be glad we broke it. If it destroyed the US economy, it would affect Brazil too, you know.

Yeah, good point Chaltab. How much oil does Brazil export annualy? And BTW Ricar...we didn't "break" the treaty, we just refuse to participate in it because it's ill-concieved and hides another more insidious agenda, ie: wealth redistribution.

OK how would the Kyoto protocol destroy USA's economy? How?

Brazil? Exporting oil? Almost none, Petrobras pretty much covers only Brazil itself. I think they supply some to Argentina or Mexico, but very little of it.

The Clinton administration had signed the treaty, and the Bush administration steped back. So I consider it "breaking" it.
