I just finished season 3 and gosh, some of that stuff wouldn't have made it to the most x-rated of horror flicks when I was a kid and here were are dragons, great acting, graphic torturous murder, boobs and buns on telly.

HBO had better stick with this through to the end of the books because I'm going to be very put out if they don't.

Nemesis' 'The Sword Sinister'

I'm bumping this thread so we can talk about this once I'm caught up. A friend is going to let me use his HBO GO account, so I'll be able to keep up with this live.

In short, I love this show. We're not even to the GIANT SEASON THREE SPOILER MY WIFE DOESN'T KNOW IS COMING BUT I DO BECAUSE I READ ABOUT IT NOT KNOWING I'D END UP WATCHING IT SO SOON BUT BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW ANYONE'S NAMES WHEN I READ THE SPOILER I'M NOT SURE IF I'M GOING TO BE HAPPY THIS HAPPENS OR NOT yet.

So by my count the season finale contained at least two Star Wars references.

Also, Myrcella's death on a boat via poison reminds me that I really need to listen to more German opera.

SPOILERS OBVIOUSLY

Theon (Darth Vader) redeems himself by saving Sansa (Luke) from her attacker, Myranda (the Emperor), by throwing her off a railing to her death.

Arya (Luke) fails a test of her mystical powers through misuse of those powers. She causes the death of a man, Jacquen (Vader), but when his face is removed she sees herself, staring back.

Jamie (Luke) reveals how he is actually related to Myrcella (Leia) and she replies with something along the lines of "I've always known."

Ah. I obviously failed to make the Theon/Sansa/Myranda--Vader/Luke/Palpatine connection. Well spotted!

I did notice, however, that Myrcella's death scene--due to poison, while on a boat--apparently referenced Richard Wagner's tragic opera Tristan und Isolde (where in Act 1 the heroine tries to poison herself during a sea voyage).

Myrcella's fiancé was even named Trystane, making the connection more obvious.
