I thought Funimation had the rights to the tv series. But maybe that is just an on demand thing.
They have made no plans for a DVD release or a dub as far as i'm aware.
A new dub, and translation is being done for Arcadia of my youth as well as a restoration but i cannot remember the company, the last llicensor ran out and did not require the license.
Still no company to issue Space Battleship Yamato uncut and in DVD qulity in the USA, since the rights issues are fucked up by voyager having starblazers.
Really unfortunate when the bandai japan releases of the movies and season 1 HD remastered are exceptional.
The bandai issues of galaxy express on blu ray of the films though are an abomination as they are upscaled. They did not bother to go back to the film source. even the DVD releases of all but the most recent films barely pass muster.
I would like to see the Yamato films restored for blu ray, as well as having season 1 released on blu ray because there is already a 1080 master used for the DVD.
The West getting decent remastered copies of Harlock TV is also not going to happen the on demand versions have bad vhs quality video and engrish subs. The japan region 2 dvd's had 2 restored audio tracks the original monaural and the new 5.1. And at the time they came from new HD telecinese much like the other companies were doing.
But such video now looks inferior because in 10 plus years of technology advances newer scans would be better than a scan done in 2000.
I think Akira got a new 4k scan with the work and cleanup being done in 2K when the original HD was done in 1080i in 2001.

I wonder if this means Discotek is licensing these from the original production companies...or if they've acquired the old Streamline Pictures library? I'd love for it to be the latter. I was raised on Streamline anime ;)
Diskotek has picked up a lot of ignored/forgotten titels, such as Fist of the North Star (TV) and various Lupin movies. They're a great force in the niche Asian cinema market right now, albeit not a well-known one

I have been working with bkev on adding the English audio from Viz’s dub over the Korean DVD version. My copy of the audio is taken from Viz’s out-of-print uncut dubbed VHS.
I have successfully timed the audio to the Korean DVD and will send a copy of the audio file to bkev. We are working on a making a DVD with the Korean video and the English dub audio. I’ll be sending the English audio to bkev and see what he wants to do with it, if he wants to make his own independent edit or use the one I am planning.
I am personally making my own edit using the same materials but am specifically aiming for a bilingual DVD (English/Japanese audio) utilizing the video from the Korean DVD and the English subtitles from it as well (the subtitles are the same as those from Viz’s out-of-print subtitled VHS release). I will be looking for someone to torrent it once it’s done, possibly bkev if he can do it. That’s all for now.
Could or someone PLEASE send me a copy of those? I grew up with these but lost all the copies to them, PLEASE someone send me a copy to the Viz-dubs?

I fully agree that the Corman dub is almost all an abomination. However, I — and I know I’m far from the only one — prefer the hauntingly melancholic “Taking off” (song) in the Corman version over what is to me the upbeat-almost-goofy original Japanese and newer English versions of the song. (99.9% of the time I way prefer original language+E subs for anything.)
Does anyone have a good copy of this track (that’s better than the ones on YT)? The song is all I’m interested in.
I strongly suspect this is one of those things where the masters were thrown away decades ago and the 40-year-old Corman VHSs are the highest quality one will find, but I don’t know for sure, am not well researched in this, so seeing if anyone here…
