Since Gmail is still in the beta phase, in order to get an email account, you have to be "invited" to join by someone who already has an account.

Does that help?

For further explanation, once you get a gmail account, you will never go back to hotmail again. Gmail + Firefox = EMAIL NIRVANA.

If those 500+ invites run out, PM me. I haven't used any of mine yet either.
