I was just browsing Amazon.com just a few minutes ago, and I found...THIS. Has anyone else seen this? Jay, anyone?

It is doubtful that it is Lucas. What really struck me was the mentioning GL's ex-wife. After all, I read an article somwhere that suggested that Marcia is one of the reasons why he will not give the original cuts the treatment it deserves. If that is part of equation, I find it extremly unethical (as with the rest of his OOT hate), and rather laughable.

This is a bad thing. I would not be shocked in the OOT does not get released now.

Of course its most likely not Lucas. The reason why I brought it up is because of the subject matter.

1. It's quite clear from the OOT dvd announment that he was shortchanging the fans. I was not suprised (but disapointed) over the non-animorphic release, and now I am even more convinced that upcoming DVD release just cheapsake trick to make a quick buck.

2. There is a couple points that must brought up about the IGN "most-wanted-dvd article." Yes, LFL did see that article, but why was the OOT dvd release annoucened so quickly after that? A possible answer lies in the fact that last year IGN entertainment was aquired by News Corp, the same Rupert Murdoch empire that owns 20th Century Fox: The distributor of the Star Wars films outside of LFL. While some IGN's editors have farily vocal about releasing OOT on an advanced format, IGN's purchase by News Corp./Fox only comes to show that the indviduals at IGN who wrote the "most wanted dvd" article was only influential for the OOT dvd announcment alone. Everything else that was recomended in the article; proper restoration of the classic cuts to take advantage of the DVD format, is not happening.

Jack Spencer Jr. you know that the OOT is coming out on DVD, but with great deal of reluctance from Lucas, who only releasing it for buisness related purpose. At the same time he disregarding the importance of classic film, preservation. Why is it, that many other filmmakers can release proper home video releases with multiple versions of the films in a single package but not Lucas? There has to be something more to GL's OOT hate than what we already beleive. Who knows what this man is thinking?

Honestly, I joined this board for main purpose of advocating classic film perservation, which also because my increasing intrest in filmaking as an artform (and possible career choice if I don't become a game developer) No, I have not seen the orginal theatrical cuts (I was born in 86), and do plan on doing so at some point. Sure I just go out a set of VHS tapes, or (god-forbid) the upcoming DVD release. The upcoming release is a rip off considering that their packaging no other useful bonus material on any of these two disc sets (cough* deleted sences *cough). Why is it that episodes 1-3 get the deluxe treatment on their 2 disc sets? Heck I don't even beleive that OT SE's received the same deluxe treatment of prequels. All all I am saying is that all Star Wars films should get same deluxe treatment for the sake of the fans and the sake of the artform that filmaking is.

I remembered reading that review a long while back. Obviously made by soemone with a good, sarcastic sense of humor and not George Lucas.

I guess you're right about the person who probably wrote it. For some reason I would like to beleive that Lucas' OOT hate stems far deeper than just his "original vision," as writer of that review suggests. Marcia will getting some $$$ from her beloved George when the dvds are released in couple of months. However, being a prick, meaning half-@$$ed treatment of these important films that people grew up with and changed the face of the movie business and artform, is unacceptable. Why is it unaceptable? He using this upcoming DVD release as a plain unapreciative lip service to the production crew that helped him grow as a filmaker such as Gary Kurtz, and all of those puppetiers that were screwed over by his CGI-laden Special editions. Yes, this also applies to the monkey faced actress from ESB, Clive Revile and Sebastian Shaw, and all of the fans that landed GL in his massive ranch in California. Ever seen underapreciation of the OOT on the StarWars.com message boards? I will admit however, that I also need to take it easy on the Lucas-bashing

I would like to apologize for the Special Editions but see, my ex-wife Marcia was taking me to the cleaners so I had to make some changes for legal reasons blah blah blah.

Oh yeah, that's TOTALLY George Lucas talking right there. Because as we all know, George Lucas talked like a 15 year old.

Agreed. All of the great work that other people poured into the original versions of the films have now been completely trampled in the mud by George Lucas' attitude. Their hard work and artistic brilliance was nothing more than a crappy intermediary step in his mind; forget about preserving history. Its sickening to think about. He's a rich, out of touch, and haughty man who thinks the world revolves around his petty and selfish vision.
