Please moderators, if you have it in your hearts, ban this stupid little troll. Just ban him and make sure he can never get back under any other alias. He trolls and trolls and trolls, and then pretends to be on our side. Just check out THIS thread and you'll see why he needs to be banned. We want to chat about Star Wars here, and although we all respect other opinions, this guy goes way overboard. Each post of his is a love letter to Lucas, and he just does it to annoy us. Most of us here dislike the prequels (to put it lightly) and prefer the OOT, and this guy is the ultimate Lucas fanboy, and is totally cramping our style. Then, when we call him on it, he says we all have anger issues. For me, that was the last straw. It's fine to have people with differing opinions, but this is too much and we need to get rid of him.

And if Go-Mer posts on this thread, just ignore him, and then we can celebrate when he gets banned.

Even if he is annoying, and we find his opinions stupid, he hasn't been hostile. Just persistent. You and Cable have been hostile little monkeys acting like school children. All that thread you linked to shows is that he knows how to put forth his ideas calmly and that you don't. Get the hell over it.

And what would we have without Go-Mer? Lots of "yes, I agree" and "I think so, too." It doesn't make for very interesting discussion.


On the other hand, it would be nice to exchange pleasant thoughts about Star Wars without EVERY thread become an argument about the O.T. vs. the P.T. I am pretty sick of that, but I shy away from banning someone just because they ... well, steer every thread to the same argument.

If that's trolling, then by all means ban him. But I think it falls a wee bit short, and is simply annoying as all hell.

Perhaps you quoted my entire post without reading it carefully. I revere the O.T. I hate the P.T. and I could type about my opinions pro and con all day long.

But I don't want EVERY thread to denegrate to the same argument.


There's a Theatricals vs. Special Editions forum ... what about setting up an O.T. vs. Prequels forum, and having the moderators move every one of Go-Mer's posts there??


I don't mind debating P.T. vs. O.T., but sometimes I want to read and write and share about Star Wars outside of this argument. Go-Mer does not allow any thread to exist without this argument being brought to bear. I'm sick and tired of it.


But I don't mind defending the O.T. passionately, dissing the P.T. with all the disdain I can muster, and lambasting Lucas for his fall as an artist ... and of course, for that neck!

heh, I was just extremely surprised to see him again after all these years. I said "wtf is that really the jar jar butt lover I once knew?" He's here to fuck around, there's no doubt in my mind about that. It's his whole schtick, but what can one do but laugh. it's sort of funny. Yeah I'm sure he's real pissed at lucas for not treating the Originals with uttmost respect.

Look, I understand that it gets boring when there aren't different views, but Go-Mer is not what we want in that category. He makes it absolutely no fun. I want to be able to talk to people with different views, and we do have people like that, people that don't shove it down our throats. Go-Mer needs to be banned because he IS a troll. Someone who has a different opinion is not a troll, but someone who forces opinions down our throats while acting all calm and sophisticated, but having a secret agenda, is a troll. Just read a normal definition of internet troll and it describes Go-Mer to a T. Please don't get me or Cable wrong. Posting is enhanced when there are different opinions, but trolling and different opinions are totally different things, and should be treated as such. (i.e. trolls banned, a spectrum of opinions embraced)

I asked for that thread to be closed cuz it was way off topic and cuz I didn't want to feed Gomer's shit anymore so I'm more than a little resentful at this remark, ReverendBeastly.

And...I tried to tell everyone that the best thing to do about Gomer is to ignore him......no one listened to that....it's in that thread, I think.

But whatever....I'm rather tired of debating SW for now. Zion summed it up nicely for me...just avoid him. And so I shall. Gomer's not worth the time to banter with anyway...he says the same thing over and over again.

I'm lurking around the preservation threads so I can get some tips for my own hand crafted set of the OOT. Once that's done, I'm checking out of the SW universe forever....naturally I'll share what's on my set and have some pics. They're going to be OLD, OLD school.

Is this what passes for a thread these days? Get real. Go-mer may be a few things, and yes, sometimes he can bait, but to try to ban him on the basis of "his fundamental opinions differ from mine" is really dumb. You can disagree with his disagreement but starting a whole thread i think is overkill.

Have you read any of my posts? I don't want him banned because his opinions are different. I want him banned because he's a freaking troll, and somehow I don't think ignoring him is going to get him away. For starters, it would be impossible getting everyone to ignore him simultaniously, me included. I think there are lots of people that can't ignore people like him, and I'm, sadly, one of them. I think trolling is a perfectly reasonable ground for banning, and if it isn't, there is something seriously wrong here.

I agree, but I don't believe Go-Mer is trolling. He could be, since he sort of walks the line and is constantly bringing every thread off topic like Obi Jeewhyen pointed out, but he hasn't actually done anything obviously troll-ish yet. So far, at worst, he just seems to be an unthinking zealot for the prequels. Other times he is quite rational and can provide interesting subjects to discuss.

Excuse me, but one of the definitions of trolling is constanstly steering threads off topic. It is a very obvious sign of the troll, and there are forums where you get banned for it. I guess this isn't one of them. It's fine when threads get off topic, because sometimes threads slowly go that way as the conversation weigns, but Go-Mer purposfully does it in every thread he gets into, and not gradually or over time. It's freaking ridiculous. Textbook trolling.

such is the nature of the internet. Everyone has a say, even Lucas himself could be among us. And we can all hide behind our computers while acting differently than we do outside cyberspace. I agree with you since unbelievably I've known gomer for years on at least 5 different star wars message boards and he is just some weird Lucas fanatic, nothing more. Making threads like this probably only pleases him as he knows his goal to fuck with you is accomplished. It is best to ignore him. You're only playing into his game with something like this and I'm trying to make it known this is what he wanted in the first place. In the grand scheme, broad spectrum, whatever, everyone knows he's a joke, but don't give him the satisfaction of knowing he got to you. He wants that attention for some strange reason.

I get that, but the easiest solution here is not to ignore him, but to ban him. If he's got some "little game" and "master plan" that is to fuck with people over the internet, then that is perfect ground for banning.

Heh, it is to me too and maybe some mods would like to do that but so far there's no serious reason to ban the goof beyond his annoying antithetical preaching next to the entire point of this website. Like someone said, it's like going to a "someguy for Mayor" board and persistently aruing for his opponent. It's ok though, let him have his fun. The world will still turn regardless.

You may have a point there. He does enjoy confronting people's opinions a little too much at times. But, even then, I'm not sure that's enough trolling to justify banning him. I prefer forums with lax rules in general. Maybe if he does it more.

Gomer's reputation precedes him. But I don't think he's done anything worth baning yet. Then again, I'm not keeping tabs on him either. He is quite adept at baiting, though. I choose to not give him the atention he wants. Maybe he wll eventually go back to TFn, because his Lucasspin doctoring isn't going over here.
There's good in the Original Trilogy, and it's worth fighting for.
