"Future Theatrical and DVD Releases" What do we think they will be?

Author

Starwars.com:

"We look forward to bringing the same experience to our members with the two Star Wars television series in development, an anticipated Celebration IV event, next-generation Star Wars video games, special theatrical and DVD releases and whatever else the future has in store."

So what do we think these "Special Theatrical and DVD releases" will be?

My guess - A triple bill of the PT and a two trilogies box set. Ho hum.

Except for the cartoons and the Holiday Special, that list seems pretty dead-on, actually.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

Well, Droids and Ewoks is actually well-respected among Lucasfilm. Ben Burtt wrote the majority of the series, and Lucas has made multiple references to Droids in the PT. Plus, Sansweet has voiced his respect for at least the animated segment of the holiday special.

For DVD's I think a I-VI boxset is inevitable, as are the complete Clone War series collected in a single double-disk special edition. Maybe Droids and Ewok series, as was mentioned. Personally, i find it kinda surprising that there is going to be more Lucasfilm DVD's, since pretty much everything is already available and Blu-Ray remains an untapped format. Maybe Graffiti is going to finally be given a remastered re-release, as the current dvd is well over 5 years old and pretty rough looking.

The theatrical release comment is pretty exciting--obviously in reference to the SW saga being released in its entirety, but we knew this was coming one day soon. Personally my feeling is that they will release a new episode every week, just like the serial films of the 30's, so you can follow the series week by week from I-VI.

I predict they will be yet another official DVD release that I won't buy.

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

I do, however, hope that the ewok films are cleaned up a little better for a new DVD release.

Like what?
I'm really not sure about that. Just see the end of ROTS, where droids seem to be new "members" of the Tantive IV. The reference books had to explain the "hole" between ROTS and ANH, where, in the series, the droids have no masters...

"Lucas making references to the EU", that line sounds really uncredible, IMO (even if he has, for some little details)...

Here are the references, straight from Wookieepedia:

- In the fourth episode of the series 'A Race to the Finish', the Droids end up at a race known as the "Boonta Race." A similar name was used for the podrace in 'Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace', which was known as the "Boonta Eve Classic".

- The swamp planet of Bogden is a planet visited by the droids in the series. In 'Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones', Jango Fett says that he was "hired by a man called Tyranus on the moons of Bogden."

- As confirmed by StarWars.com, the wheel bike, which was Jann Tosh's vehicle as seen in the animated series, was also the type of vehicle that was the vehicle of choice for General Grievous in 'Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith', when in a chase with Obi-Wan Kenobi on Utapau.

- The diner in an episode of the series has a strong similarity to Dex's Diner as seen in 'Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones'.

- Toong from the series was given as the home planet for a species in the prequels.

- In the episode, 'The Pirates of Tarnoonga', the pirate caves on Tarnoonga bear a striking resemblance to the sinkhole grottos of Utapau as seen in 'Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith'.

Dude, you know WAY too much about both the droids cartoons, and the PT. May God have mercy on your soul (because I'm pretty sure you
won't find any here)

does this mean we will actually get the oot on dvd or blu ray/ HD-DVD?

I am thinking by theatrical they mean releasing the 2004 dvd cut on the big screen in 3D and regular cinemas, as well as the special editions of the prequels, sigh.

Yeah, I think that's what they meant.

Ok, but it's how I've said, just little details... that's all. When you see that on a "continuity" point of view, you easily understand that the EU is, for GL, a very secondary universe...
There are no real big references... The biggest one I've seen is Obi's line concerning Quinlan Vos. And that jedi was intended to be seen in ROTS, but has been cut...

I guess you're forgetting that Aayla Secura was an EU character LONG before she appeared in AOTC. In fact, GL saw a comic book cover with her on it and then decided to make her a "real" character

And the only reason he brought Boba Fett into the PT is because of his EU popularity. Also remember that he considered adding a scene to ROTJ where Fett crawled out of the Sarlaac.

As for the HS on DVD, probably not. But I do hope that we'll get the animated segment as an extra sometime. The more I watch it, the more it grows on me. Even the bad animation is somewhat charming...

Indeed. I think it should be included as part of the OOT trilogy pettition.

But it's not part of the Classic Trilogy. EU doesn't count! *shakes fist without moving arm*
