“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

I've got to see this Monty Python series. I've heard it very funny but I just have not gotten around to watching them.

Comedy is divided in "before Monty Python" and "after Monty Python". Do you know why spam is called spam? And why the word "pythonesque" is a real word now? Ni? Nobody expects the spanish inquisition? Nudge-nudge knowhatimean, knowhatimean, say no more? Always look at the bright side of life? Since you're not familiar with MP skecthes and movies, you must think I'm a bit of a loony here...

But remember that Monty Python was heavily influenced by the BBC radio series The Goon Show, starring Peter Sellers, Harry Secombe and Spike Milligan (along with early member Michael Bentine). My dad is a huge fan of the old Goon Shows and at one point had most of them taped off the radio. Funny, funny stuff.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Oh yes, it all started with the Goon show back in the late 50s. But Monty Python had a bigger influence, I mean, there is no college nerd (myself included, when I was in college) that dosen't quote Monty Python almost everyday. I mean, look at my signature... And they changed comedy forever...

Ahhhh...Monty Python... Virtually everything they made is classic, in my eyes. After I saw Troy, I was talking with a friend who hadn't, and we somehow got on a Holy Grail tangent, talking about the 'Trojan Rabbit' they constructed. Oh, and the coconuts...I'll never forget those... If I had a spare $150 floating around, I'd buy the complete television series on DVD.
Now we both sound a bit looney to Warbler, Ric.

"Okay, now what do we do?"
"Well, we wait until nightfall and then you, me, Lancelot, and Robin climb out of the giant rabbit and... oh."

I know I didn't get those quotes right, but you all know what I was shooting for.

Let's see if I can quote that from memory:

"Ok now what happens?"
"Well now, Sir Lancelor, Galahad and I wait until nightfall and leap out of the rabbit striking the french by surprise, not only by surprise, but totally unnarmmed!"
"Who leaps out of the rabbit?"
"Lancelot, Galahad, and I... leap... out of the rabbit... uh..."

It's been awhile since I've seen it. Guess I'll have to check it out at the library when I go to work. It should make for a fun afternoon.

I own it and I've got to see it again. Been quite a while. I don't think I've ever watched my DVD copy yet I wore my VHS down to nearly nothing. I did the same thing with Edward Scissorhands. Watched the VHS like there was no tomorrow but have yet to watch the DVD and I've owned that for nearly three years. Sad, eh?

Monty Python and the Holy Grail is the funniest movie ever.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

I don't know I find it hard it imagine a movie funnier than "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, World"

I watched Holy Grail this afternoon...I remember it being hilarious, but not as totally insane as it actually is. I feel the biggest thing the movie has going for it is the sheer WTF factor...it's a classic, and one of the most solid film depictions of the Arthurian legend, at that (despite it being parody).
BTW, has anyone ever timed that music track at the very end?

Oh I forgot to include "Bedazzled" (the re-make with Brendan Frasier). I love the scene where he wishes he was a basketball player.

I prefer the Dudley Moore version.
