When it comes to open matte, for me, Hardcore and Scanners readily come to mind. Presumably they’re both on video, but the former is extremely hard to find.

Bigrob,

If you plan to get <span style=“text-decoration: underline;”>Harry Potter & the Half Blood Prince</span> on Full Screen, can you upload that? Please reply. Thanks.

If you’re still interested, I recently bought the FS Half Blood Prince on DVD.

Great! I am still interested. How do you plan to share it?

Sorry for the late response, I really need to start ticking that “notify” checkbox.
Send me a PM and we’ll work something out.

Half Blood Prince was released in full screen?!

Did they all get full screen then?

Nope, only 1 - 6.
Deathly Hallows 1 and 2 didn’t get the FS treatment.

Were 1-6 open matte? So: are there more image information on top and bottom?

My copies of the FS Stone and Chamber are both open matte, I’m yet to watch my copy of Half Blood Prince though. I’ll do that tonight and report back.

The Naked Gun movies all were shot open matte. The widescreen framing on the DVD of the first film is slightly off, as you can see a sliver of the bra Priscilla Presley is wearing when she’s supposed to be naked.

Ironically, the filmmakers on the commentary track mention how visible the bra was in old fullframe transfers. I guess they couldn’t see this on the monitor they were using because of overscan?

No idea if this is fixed for the Blu Ray.

Would the VHS tapes be open matte because I’ve never heard of any full screen dvd release for any of the movies

The Full Screen versions of the Jurassic Park trilogy look really good, framing wise, whereas the widescreen version feels cropped; tight. Of course the VFX scenes are pan & scan in the 4:3 version because they were hard matted in the source. However, the hard matted frame was still taller than 1.78:1, maybe 1.75:1, and the 4:3 P&S of those scenes do not utilise the full vertical height of the frame which they should have to compensate for the horizontal loss.

were they all available on full screen on DVD ? I don’t remember what cover art was used

No idea about VHS. There were also fullscreen Laserdiscs of all three films.

Jurassic Park trilogy is still available in Full Screen on DVD. Mostly open matte but some scenes are pan & scan. Cover art was the same as Wide Screen DVDs, except that the yellow widescreen label was replaced with a red fullscreen one. You can look at the original FS DVDs on Amazon below.

Jurassic World was shot on 35mm 4-perf full aperture as well as 65mm 5 perf. But no Full Screen version is available, neither open matte. I guess from 2009 onward Full Screen DVDs are no longer produced.

Anyone have any Full Screen versions of RoboCop?? I think the closest theres been DVD wise was the Criterion DVD, which I have, but was still Widescreen. Forgive me if this has been asked already. This is actually a movie I for some reason prefer open matte.

hmm I’ve never owned the criterion release, but I do know that it was released on laserdisc in both pan and scan and letterbox, I don’t think the pan and scan version is truly the same as the open matte one but I think it should be closer to what your looking for

I have Robocop Criterion DVD which I prefer, however the remastered Blu-Ray is good.

Anyone know if these full-screen DVDs are P&S:
300
A Beautiful Mind
Austin Powers: Goldmember
Mars Attacks!
X-Men
X-Men: United
X-Men: The Last Stand

Regarding robocop: I do not know if there is a DVD (I am searching, also), I only know that there exists a Russian languages full screen and, I think, open matted version somehow. I think it is the r-rated cut. I do not know if it is a DVD rip, or where the video is coming from.

I’d assume all the X-Men movies are just pan and scan crops of the widescreen versions

It’s unusual there wasn’t a full frame Robocop DVD. Even the early Image DVD from 1998 is widescreen. MGM was still into flippers with widescreen and fullscreen sides when they released it in 2001, but no dice.

As a side note, I was flipping channels on Saturday, and FX was showing Spiderman 2 in 4:3 full frame. Very strange.

And BTW, there were a lot of torrent links posted last year in this thread that slipped under the radar. (Now removed.) Help out your mods, and point out to new folks it’s against the rules when they do that?

I would like to see some kind of evidence that suggests the X-Men films (or any of the others listed) are P&S/cropped and not opened-up.

Robocop Director’s Cut Criteron DVD @ 1.66:1 AR is excellent and I don’t think a full screen version is needed.

Spider-man 1 & 2 are best watched full screen, Spider-man 3 would be too, but no full screen version exists.
