Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere.

But if you have not seen it, it is quite entertaining.

I saw Star Wars in 1977. Many, many, many times. For 3 years it was just Star Wars...period. I saw it in good theaters, cheap theaters and drive-ins with those clunky metal speakers you hang on your window. The screen and sound quality never subtracted from the excitement. I can watch the original cut right now, over 30 years later, on some beat up VHS tape and enjoy it. It's the story that makes this movie. Nothing? else.

George - The original film was basically subtitled The Tragedy of Darth Vader

At this point, his delusion is just plain disturbing.  He seems to have absolutely zero understanding of how easy it is to prove that statement is complete bullshit.

Ah, interesting. He says the cyan strip was out of synch, so that's why the separations were no good.

I'm with you. What the fuck happened to the guy?! What kind of people does he surround himself with to allow him to make such claims?

I was listening to the commentary on the ROTS DVD last night, and just sighing when he launches into that "Tragedy" spiel.

Do current printings of the SW novelization and Splinter of the Mind's Eye still have the "From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker" subtitle?

I can't see the video--do you have a quote from this section? This news would change the preservation game if it is correct.

The way he talks it's a little tough to get, but it's near the end, around the 50 minute mark, he says "We did a 3 strip in order to preserve it and (years later) when we went to the salt mine to retrieve it, the cyan was completely out of synch with everything else. It was worthless."

Bad news.

Robert Harris recently said words to the effect of, "I'm not worried about Lucas' crusade, because I know the films are preserved. No matter how much time goes by, when the go-ahead is issued to transfer the films it doesn't matter what state the negative is in." He was referring, I think, to the fact that there were 3-strip dupes.

But, I think in ILM:Into the Digital Realm it states that they used some of the 3-strip sources for ANH:SE, so now I don't know what to think. You could digitally re-sync one of the layers, as Harris said he had developed his own methodology for re-constructing 3-strip dupes. I think it's common for 3-strip dupes to have one layer or more out of sync because of shrinking and swelling that is common in old films. In 1995, maybe it was impossible to fix but hopefully now it is.

Risky business in any case...

That's the trouble with so many of the Kodak-era separations- they were made, but not tested. Since they were for the purposes of preservation and not print-making, any errors were not discovered until they attempted to use them for a restoration. That's exactly what happened when they started the "Spartacus" restoration.

There must have been some viable separations of SW at some point, though, otherwise there never would have been any Dye-Transfer prints. I wonder what happened to those seps when the British Technicolor lab finished with them..?

There are some interesting quotes here, from Robert Harris about the possibility of restoration, and the reasons he believes the OOT should be included in the blu-ray release (starting w/post #129):

Thanks for posting this.

I haven't watched it yet. I'm normally savy enough to rip these sought of videos but I'm not having any luck with this. Was anyone able to or have any suggestions?

If Lucas is claiming that Star Wars was originally titled:

Star Wars - Episode IV - The Tragedy of Darth Vader

Does he also have the original, and not totally retconned, titles for the final two films?

Star Wars - Episode V - Darth Sidious Strikes Back

Star Wars - Episode VI - The Return of Anakin Skywalker

Since they're like poetry, what with the rhyming and all, I find that I only need to watch three out of the six films.

Watched the vid...

and all throughout I was wondering what that thing was under his neck.

Perhaps that's actually alien possessing him a la Star Trek TNG's 'conspiracy'

and as soon as he said 'The Tragedy of Darth Vader' I half expected to see Nolan get up and punch him

Nah, he's just really, really, really, really fat. He could have played Jabba the Hutt and nobody would know the difference by now, seriously the man needs to run his ass on a treadmill and loose some weight, he's so fat. Fatty fatty fat fat. What's wrong with him? Does he look in the mirror and somehow NOT see his disgusting rolls of flab hanging off his belly or something? GAH, seriously I think he might be full - to the bursting point - with midichlorians (or some kind of parasite anyway). Didn't he say sometime ago that making a SW trilogy takes 10 years, and when he reaches 80 he might consider maybe doing a third trilogy; does he really expect to live to 80??? HAHAHA Seriously though, he looks like he's stacked it on big time in just the past 2 years! He needs a new hobby, one that is more physically stimulating than drawing on Star Wars using digital pens.

Splinter does not.   Star Wars says "Formerly Titled Star Wars: From The Adventures Of Luke Skywalker"

Well, I know lots of people with diabetes that exercise regularly. They also aren't fatty fats like lucas. I think it's more to do with sitting in a chair and pointing at things.
