From Jedi To Jesus

Yes, and it is insane. This guy must be a nut. Who is his father, Jerry Faldwell?

Oh, I thought it would be a documentary showing how Jesus was, in fact, a Jedi.
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

That would be wall to wall awesome for all. Throw in some ninja powers and a pirate ship and we've got a license to print money.

"This is an autobiographical manual of how-to-make Christian "worship" films in an era when the vast Church audience is clearly ripe for them."

Just eliminate the middle man and worship Star Wars films.

This is from the cover (and apparently supposed to be funny, but it's more disturbing):

Got talent?
Got Jesus?
Guess who died for your talent?

Not *sins*; *talent*.

Unless talent = sins, in which case, Carrot Top is off the hook.
We don't have enough road to get up to 88.

I am a christian and a star wars fan and have no problem being either one, and at the same time. Your not going to go to hell for liking and watching star wars. No one is actually crazy enough to pray to the force and obi wan to save their soul. Star wars is not a religion, it's science fiction/fantasy/mythology rolled into one. Eastern myticism can be fairly interesting as long as it's taken with a grain of salt like kershner said in the interest of mythology and fantasy. there is nothing wrong with star wars message to renounce evil, in fact their are themes from christian religion lucas used in star wars, he just mixed them with all sorts of other world views, mythologies and religions.

“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.

I would find this a bit interesting, but the negative light it puts Star Wars in is a definite put-off, as it seems the only reason SW is mentioned is to attract attention to itself. I'm with skyjedi; both a Christian and a Star Wars fan (in that order!), it really irks me when relgious leaders say how SW warps people's minds into believing false teaching or whatver. If anything, SW is a GOOD influence on society as a clean good vs. evil story which deals with such concepts as faith and redemption. But I can see the opposing viewpoint when you consider there are people around the world who classify their relegion as "Jedi" in cenus.

Who cares what George Lucas opposes? The hypocrite spouts off about the importance of keeping black and white films black and white because it's our national heritage but refuses to let future generations have the Star Wars trilogy in its original format. Isn't Star Wars a part of our f***ing national heritage?

This Jedi/Jesus thing is kind of weird. It reminds me of when I subjected myself to AOTC the first time; Obi-Wan Kenobi looked as if he had escaped from a Jesus Christ painting with the long hair, scraggy beard and the robe.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

Red heads ROCK. Blondes do not rock. Nuff said.

There is a major difference between colorizing other people's films and working on your own films.

I wouldn't take this too seriously. I've been in Christian circles all my life and have never heard of this Cory Parella guy. The guy should not blame his obsession with Star Wars on the movies. There is a root cause that he should find or he might have trouble later in life.

I remember when I was in high school and we used to listen to heavy metal. There was a tape called Hell's Belles about the evils of heavy metal music. All the adults were fixated on it and made us watch it. It was the silliest thing because there were very few examples of bands that I actually listened to. Groups like Metallica have positive messages in their music just like the message of Star Wars is a positive one.

The worst thing about this is that the guy is charging $34.99 for this. If his message is so important, he should be traveling to churches for free rather than trying to fleece overly concerned parents. I hope and pray this guy doesn't sell any of these videos.

I am a Christian and a huge Star Wars buff too.

There are some paralells and similarities between Christianity and the fictitious Jedi, but only to an extent.

PM me for links to my edits; apparently, some feel shy about this.

Reminds me of a situation I had.

There was an EpII Obi-Wan 12" figure in the back of my car for a while(holding a lightsaber of course), and one day an old woman came up to me an said "Is that a statue of Jesus in the back of your car?"

"I don't mind if you don't like my manners. I don't like them myself. They're pretty bad. I grieve over them during the long winter evenings."

You could answer "No, that is great man who had mystical powers and died to save the whole humanity, but later returned from the dead to spread his word... that man's name is... OBI-WAN KENOBI!"

While I never intended this to be a 'It's OK to be Christian & A Star Wars Fan' thread, it's been interesting to watch the responses.

Clearly the gentleman who made this film is a nutter and an oportunist. The very idea that he would use Christ and Star Wars, two of the most profitable things (for lack of a better word), for personal gain is offensive.

He has seemingly replaced his self-termed unhelathy obsession with Star Wars with an Obsession Of The Christ (tm). Obsession of anything is fanatical, unhealthy and downright scary.

So let's hear it and keep it on track - When does a fan of Star Wars become a fanatic?

Shouldn't everyone here already personally know the answer to that question?
Author

Sure, but isn't the internet all about self indulgence? Maybe I should have asked when does it become unhealthy?
Author

When you spend more time on message boards than you do with your girlfriend. THAT is what the general public sees as unhealthy!

Hmm, isn't "fan" a shortened form of fanatic?

Semantically, yes. However, I think the word fan has a sort of...casuallness to it. The word fanatic seems more like a zealot to me.

Believe me, I have grown up in a Christian church my whole life, and I have seen some Wacko Jacko things.

Once, when I was like 8 and lived in North Carolina (I live in PA now, thank God), this guy preached a sermon on how wearing casual clothes to church was unholy and that you shouldn't go to church if you don't dress up.

This whole Jedi to Jesus thing is nothing. I've seen much worse My parents want me to use my "talents" for the church. There is this class called "Media for Ministry" that they are urging my to do. I think I'll pass.

Really, I am not much of a Christian. Maybe, it is because my parents shove it down my throat, and quote the whole Bible to me when I get in trouble.

I cannot remember a day that they haven't quoted me a Bible verse or gave me a "sermon" on whatever.

I'm not an "anti-christ", but my parents just shove stuff down my throat and I don't want to be like them which is probably I am not very religious myself.
Rock. Nirvana. Awsomeness.
