Actually thats what makes it so bad in my opinion. Obi-wan started to move the saber toward him before he jumped out of the pit. Maul should have been able to detect this use of the force (remember Vader was able to sense Obi-wan on the first death star and Obi wasnt even use the force). So there is no reason Maul should have been taken by suprise by Obi-wan's actions. And even if he was, his response was so slow, a seasoned fighter like Maul would have responded instantly to the movement and probably cut Obi in half on his way up even without being force sensative.

There are good, inteligent movies with absolutely no plot whatsoever. Waking Life is one of them, one of my favorite movies.
