Does anyone know how to do a simple fix of a DVD copy of MF’s Clone War? The brightness needs to be turned down.

First person that says turn down the brightness on your TV gets fed to the Sarlaac.

I'm not sure if the brightness IS too high - IMHO it softens the harshness/abrasiveness of the CGI in these two films and maintains a similar feel and look to the Original Trilogy. I don't know if Magnolia did this be fault or design - but I do prefer it this way (could be that my eyesight is just bad of course! lol)

Each to his own I suppose...

When the black bars on the widescreen do not match the blackness of the television, the brightness is off.

He's even admitted as much in another thread, if I remember correctly. I just wondered if there was something I could do at the burn stage to fix this problem. I really don't want to have to do alot of converting from VOB to AVI to VOB to DVD to fix it, ya know.

"When the black bars on the widescreen do not match the blackness of the television, the brightness is off."

I hope you aren't thinking that the black bars are a lack of video information, as this is not the case. DVD requires a 720x480 frame, whether the ratio is 1.33:1, 1.78:1 or 2.35:1.

What are you talking about?

One of the quickest ways to check the brightness of a film is to see if the black widescreen bars that are created on some movies, such as MF's edits of the PT, is to see if the bars match the black 'space' elsewhere on the television. Just watch the beginning title card for his edits. The black is grey on a THX optimized TV (yes, I know you have to do it for each film you watch). Thus it's off. I'm not complaining, I just want to know of a quick way to fix it as I've promised about 5 friends free copies of it and want to give them the best picture as possible.

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

My dvd of it looks fine.
If I remember, this happened somewhere along the lines in the distribution.
There are also a couple different versions of it out there, as the original subtitle track wouldn't display on some dvd players and it had to be redone. There's also another version fixing a typo in the crawl.
That might be why some people have the brightness issue and others don't. There are different discs out there.

Mine came from Rikter, if that helps.
