Fix up original Terminator effects?

OK, just wondering: I'm a huge fan of Terminator 2, but I've always found the original Terminator to be almost unwatchable when it gets to the climax due to the hideous Terminator effects -- it really jolts me out of the movie whenever I see it.

While I really prefer to do without the "enhancements" Lucas added to SW, I would welcome the replacement of a decent-looking Terminator. Just curious what others think about this ... I'm guessing most here would rather not see it messed with.

I find it strange that this is a change I've daydreamed about for a while now, but I've had no desire to see the effects cleaned up in ANY other movies I can think of ... normally I can just accept the effects of a movie as a product of its era. I think one reason Terminator is different for me is that T1 and T2 have such a gap in the quality of their effects, but the same actors, etc ... so the effects differences mar the continuity to some degree. Also, probably a big reason is that I saw T2 first, so going back to T1 was just that much more painful.

Wasn't the first Terminator movie made real cheap anyway? I think the movie was more about story then effects. The effects didn't tell the story, as Lucas likes to claim all the time.

leave the Terminator as it is. The effects aren't wonderful, but they will do and they are hardly "unwatchable"

I love those stop motion effects in Terminator.

They don't pull me out of the film because the direction as a whole so powerful that it would take Jar Jar to pull me out at that moment.

Stop motion effects such as those in Terminator and in RoboCop 1 and 2 look more real to me than CGI ever can.
"The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country." - Goering.

"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it." - Goebbels.

"In times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act." - Orwell.

I might be in favor of it as long as the original is still available <cough>. Also, if he actually were to spruce up the effects, I think that he should use traditional animatronics/props and not just lazily cgi the endoskeleton scenes. Just my two cents.

Change Terminator? Hell no! One of the errors in the movie (and I was the first in the entire world to notice it and post it on the net, I know because I searched extensively) is near the beginning when Reese asks the cop the date; who says "12th, May, Thursday". The movie is set in 1984. The 12th of May is a Saturday in 1984, it was a Thursday in 1983.

Yes, I know, I rock.

You know what? The effects in War of the Worlds are pretty primitive, maybe we should change them too?

Part of what makes the original Terminator so great is those special effects. There's a grimy look to the whole thing that just seems to ground it in reality, unlike, say, the antiseptic and artificially clean look of the PT and the first two Harry Potter movies.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

ok thou i dont think they should change the effects, the effects are not what defines that movie for me.
