Finally Burned Out On Star Wars...

Hey guys - it's been a long time coming, but I think I'm done with all things Star Wars for a while.

I've been thinking about it for a while now, and I have come to the conclusion that it's time for me to put Star Wars to bed. I've spent 29 years of my life watching, collecting and talking about Star Wars - with really nothing to show for it.

I'm sure I will end up buying the DVD's in September in spite of myself, but I think I need to spend more time on the things that really matter instead of devoting so much time to a largely unrewarding allegiance to a fictional film series.

I loved the films when I was a kid, but I'm not a kid anymore so there really is no point. I don't get excited about Star Wars anymore, and am left with a bittersweet taste in my mouth when I think about Star Wars.

At any rate, I have a new Jedi coming into the world in the next month and perhaps someday will relive the youthful excitement that Star Wars gave me through my children, but for now, goodbye.

Thanks everyone for the good times and good conversation. I wish you all the best of luck in your future endeavours.

Cheers,
Cassidy

Cassidy,

You know, you can still stick around here and talk about things other than Star Wars - I spend the majority of my time in the off-topic section.

I know how you feel with Star Wrs, and you're right - it's just a movie man. Sure, it's a movie that went a long way towards moulding us as young people, and we probably wouldn't be who we are without it, but there are more imporatnt things. Maybe now you have realised that, a day will come when you can enjoy it again.

If you choose to abandon all things Star Wars, including this site, all the best dude, we'll miss ya.

War does not make one great.

Don't blame you in the least Cassidy!!!

I've been removed from SW for quite a while now and the initial news about the release brought me back, only to have my hopes dashed again. It's truly frustrating and you are right, unrewarding.

Once this nonsense with the OOT DVDs is over (for better or worse), I'm signing off completely not only from Star Wars, but from any Lucas output. I'm not buying a single Lucas-related product for the rest of my life. I will not see any of his movies, Indy 4 included. The only other thing I wanted was the Young Indy series and that is greatly altered from its original broadcast versions. I think I'm going to make the extra effort to find those on bootlegs. I just don't like Lucas anymore period. Never mind the changes or whatever we might think about the prequels, this latest news is unacceptable.

So, yeah, I hear ya Cassidy.....time to jump off this train....

I'm here for the people and the "Project". I lost faith in LFL years ago.

[EDIT] That's not to say I don't understand how you feel. It's definitely going around. I saw this at TF.n. Let me know how close it hits:
The O-OT is going to be released on dvd.
- Yippeee!
But the movies will be sold separately, that is, separately and together with the 2004 special editions.
- Oh....okay.
We'll call the originals bonus features.
- Uh....dude....
And the sound is stereo, not 5.1.
- Ah...oh...fine.
And here is the cover art. It looks a little bit like some of the old posters.
- Errr....whatever.
And it's going to be letterbox, not anamorphic.
- Uhmmm....
And it's from the old transfer from some 10 years ago.
- oh...
You're not going to complain are you? You're getting your outdated originals. The special editions were huge improvements anyway. Let's be honest, you hardly noticed the changes.
- I surrender.

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

Same. I went through a burnout period a few years ago when I wondered if I had wasted too much of my life on Star Wars. Thankfully I struck a balance.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.
