Final Cut Express

I want to make my own edits of the Star Wars movies, and I feel like the lines in the wipe transitions for Final Cut Express are too solid. I want my custom wipes to match the blurriness of the lines that make up the wipes in the movies. Is there any way to do that?

Note that I don't have Final Cut on my computer (I use Avid), but you need to have some feathering on the wipes.

If there's a control in the FX panel (or whatever it is) called "feathering," that's what you need to look for.
