I just find it weird they do it at all.  It would be like if Disney decided to put  star wars from 1977 on blu ray but then color timed it to match the original theatrical colors of empire strikes back.

Who said they won't?

Another version of Terminator 2 on Blu Ray? This will be the 3rd US release right?

Yes, and it's sorely needed - so far the best HD version of Terminator 2 is HDDVD - the first BD version is the same master as the HD DVD but suffers from some sort of artifacts that the HDDVD doesn't and the 2nd BD release (the one I was unfortunate enough to buy as it is the only one that came out in my country) has really horrible DVNR. And I mean like old school DVNR, motion smearing and everything - I downloaded a 12GB HDDVD rip of the movie and it beats the hell out of the BD I own :-/

Was not the Terminator before the new BD ever recolor timed?  I mean to match the second film.  Seems to be something they do these days as they did it with the Matrix and Lord of the Rings.

Its a Cameron thing, he loves the teal look check out aliens! Plus coming soon The abyss, true lies, and terminator 2

Titanic also has the teal shift on blu-ray. (And other alterations)

But with Lord of the Rings, they actually already had the first film nicely color timed in their digital interpositive, and from what I understand that is what they used in the flashback in ROTJ of Boromir's death in FOTR.

What they did was they took that nice clean version, re-timed it all scene by scene, (gotta have been done by amateurs because there are some very weird color shifts at parts which I haven't seen the likes of in any other film, like a select hue of pink being shifted to green) changed grey into teal and made it darker, lowered the brightness to crush shadow detail, and then changed the overall RGB balance so everything was tinted green, even the brightest whites.

That just cannot have been done to match any other film, because the only one looking slightly similar in certain scenes is The Hobbit, but that film seemed much more professionally color timed.

Yeah I only have the first Blu release, held off on buying that "Skynet" version.  So many of these releases are disappointing :(

The first blu gets a bad rep, its an early mpeg 2 bd25 its as good as a launch disc gets.

There is a UK Blu I own that is the HD DVD ported over, but is not the TC.

At the end of the day it is moot as the master is the same and has poor detail resolution and print damage, shame the new master will be the typical Lowry degrain/regrain with a real push, and no doubt some digital alterations

I thought it was pretty much a given the Best BD so far was the Japanese release.  Over the US Skynet.

The Super Expensive blu ray Dark Jedi owns.

It is. You_Too demonstrated that in the Terminator thread, IIRC.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

It resolves the grain slightly better than the UK disc, but there is not much in it. Not for the price and 100%not with that master. But compared to the skynet I would take my Japanese laserdisc.

My buddy from LDDB (disclord) just got a copy. He said it looks amazing.

No,I did have that but the costs involved meant I flipped it for a big profit. (regret that)

It looked as good as the DVD but the colour was not as vibrant.

What I really want is the hi vision disc

Ok, if a Terminator 2 remaster is on the way, this is what I bet it will look like, old vs new:

Maybe we should start some voting or betting on how close it will be? :)

The new master was done well over a year ago, its not if but when.

And I think the colour will be more more aggressive

That is correct, I saw T2 8 times at theaters in 1991 and the teal shift was originally there

sorry, bluray.com joke

I find it funny Cameron is behind revisionist colorings of his films and silently removing stuff via computers in earlier  films, but was harsh on Lucas for star wars changes.

@skyjedi2005: Do you have any quote or link? I'd be interested to see what he said about Lucas.

Quoting the quote from Zombie's sig.

"When George went back and put new creatures into the original Star Wars, I find that disturbing. It’s a revision of history. That bothers me."

Harmy's right that the (theatrical) HD DVD looks the best, but there's not much in it really.  Basically, all of the old BDs and HD DVDs look very similar.  Anything's better than the Skynet release.

I imagine it would look almost exactly like that.

From what I've seen in screenshot comparisons here and there, the Japanese BD is the same as the HD DVD, but also has cleaner upper and lower edges of the picture. The HD DVD is bright and blurry at those edges.

The JP disc is indeed the best of a bad bunch.

Cameron also "fixed" Aliens

I looked at the screenshot comparisons a few years ago and seem to remember that the Japanese BD is slightly stretched vertically (like some of the others).  I have the Japanese discs and the theatrical HD DVD, and the difference between the Japanese discs and all the other non-Skynet releases is minor.  It's down to individual impressions of small differences in grain and of the degree of edge enhancement and the like, and I'll take the HD DVD.  In my opinion, the Japanese discs aren't significantly better than the other non-Skynet releases (as some have made them out to be) and weren't worth the price I paid to import them.
