What's your favorite stuff of all time? Mine is:

Movie: Star Wars Episode IV (Original Version AND Special Editions. Greedo shoots first doesn't really bother me.)
Game: Street Fighter Alpha 3 (Special Edition (a.k.a. Upper and MAX) because it has every character from Super SFII)
Song: Tarzan Boy by Baltimora
TV Show: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Comic Book: Iron Man
Wrestler: Hulk Hogan
Manga: Dragon Ball Z
Book: The Book of Three (haven't read it yet, but it probably will be once I read it)

Just so you know, there is no manga called DragonBall Z. But I'll do my list too.

Favorite Manga: Dragon Ball
Favorite TV series: Eh, I'll go with Firefly for now. I have too many, so it's pretty much whatever tickles my fancy at any given time.
Video Game: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past/Ocarina of Time (I used to like LTTP more, but OOT has caught up purely on nostalgic value)
Song: Penny Lane by The Beatles

Eh, that's all for now. I might do more when I think of them.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

While the anime was renamed from Dragonball to Dragonball Z for marketing reasons, the manga remains with one name.

All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It might be confusing because, if I remember correctly, the American reprints of the manga DOES say Dragonball Z on the covers.

Let me clear up the DBZ manga thing. Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z are two seperate manga series here in the states, but in Japan, they were originally just Dragon Ball. The japanese anime split them up, and the american anime split them up as well, so to avoid confusion, Viz just put Z on volumes 17-42. I'd also just like to say when you do own all 42 volumes, you have to have a helluva lot of shelf space.

Favorites:

Movie: Kingdom of Heaven (Director's Cut)
Book: The Lord of the Rings
Game: 1. Super Mario 64 (DS or N64 Version)
Manga: Death Note (Dragon Ball being a close runner-up.)
TV Show: "24" tied with "House M.D."

It dosen't here. Still, some people make that mistake. Another common mistake is to belive there is a DBGT manga, which there isn't. DBGT was a way of trying to milk more money out of the series, and did not even had any participation of the manga creatoer Akira Toriyama.

I'd like to get into Kenshin, but that is a hell of a lot of manga to buy.

Maus is absolutely great, the best north-american graphic novel, but it's not THE best book around...

The Book of Three, and its subsequent sequels, was EXTREMELY good from what I remember...then again, I haven't read them since I was in 7th grade.

Try collecting all 42 volumes of Dragon Ball. That's 14 more volumes than Kenshin has...
Now that I have all of Dragon Ball, I am trying to get into Kenshin, but its a big commitment if I like volume one to get 28 volumes. My shelf space is already being eaten up by my ever-growing collections of One Piece, Death Note, and Yu-Gi-Oh, which will have 38 volumes at completion. (Don't call me a nerd for liking Yu-Gi-Oh. It's really good in manga form. Even the uncut anime can't live up to it.)

I'm only missing Volumes 41 and 42... or 25 and 26 as Viz would have me call them. But I plan to soon get them. I'm a bit disappointed with Viz's translations and censorship lately. Hercule?! What the crap?! Oh, an Ingo, if you need any more proof that there really is no DBZ manga, just look at almost any of the cover images. Toriyama almost always includes the volume number, sometimes subtlely, sometimes overtly (No. 40, I'm looking in your direction!) in that image, almost as if he knew someone would come along and screw around with his numbering. Plus, no one's gotten this specific, but the DBZ part of the anime doesn't actually come at a perfect division between volumes of the manga. So Viz cut off the first two chapters of Volume 17 and later tacked them onto the end of Volume 16. That's why "DBZ Volume 1" is so short, while DB Volume 16 is so long.

And, yes, I need more shelf space!

EDIT: And, ric, I've actually heard (but not seen) that there is a DBGT manga, but, of course, it's based on the anime rather than the other way around like with the rest of DB. Maybe it's simply an animanga, but I have heard it exists.

EDIT AGAIN: Also to ric. You're just a bit off the mark by saying that Toriyama had no involvement with GT. I don't consider it canon myself (and I've not watched a lot of it either), but Toriyama did do the character designs (including GT-exclusive characters), and he did help set up the original premise of the show. But his participation was extremely limited. He also designed a lot of characters for the movies and TV specials.

The amount of participation of Akira Toriyama on DBGT has been discussed and debated for quite some time, and no one is really sure how much he was involved. When asked if he had any amount of participation on DBGT's production, he would merely reply "no". While he authorized the whole thing and possibly reviewed the proposed storylines, he did not write a single bit of it, and as far as I know, did not come up with new character designs, such as SSJ4, but merely authorized them to be so. He DID have some small participation on that DBGT movie, though (in which Pan's grandson search for the dragon balls).

So, basically, I belive they just gave him a huge ammount of cash to just look at the episode storyboards and say "yeah, whatever".

Well, I wouldn't go so far as to say SSJ4. I merely stated that his involvement was at the beginning of the series, and SSJ4 is much farther in than that. I don't really have an airtight way to confirm my knowledge. Like you said, it's been debated endlessly. So I guess we're at a stalemate, huh? ^_^

All I can say is that, while I've never heard one way or the other whether Toriyama was involved with the Goku Jr. storyline, I CAN say with 100% certainty that it was a TV special and NOT a movie, since DBGT had no movies attached to it. The closest to a GT movie was the 4th DB 10th anniversary movie that was created during GT, uses more GT-ish character designs, and uses Dan Dan Kokoro as a theme.

Sorry, it was a TV special, I know. I tend to refer to it as a movie, like the Bardock one and the Future Trunks one.
