Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

Anyone else really looking forward to this movie? I thought the first one was great and I can't wait to see how the story line plays out. I only saw the first one a couple months back after looking over it so many times. Finally, my cousin brought it over and we all watched it and was shacked at how good it was and that it didn't seem to have the big push that Spider-Man does.

I'm looking forward to it, but I'm not very optimistic.

I actually enjoyed the first Fantastic Four movie where a lot of people hated it. It was a good popcorn flick even if Dr. Doom wasn't done very well. What makes me not-so-optimistic about the new on is that from what I've heard, Galactus won't be the massive armored Devourer of Worlds we know from the comics, but aparently according to once source, he's going to be... a big storm cloud.

Yeah, they really messed up on Dr. Doom, and that kind of spoils it. I mean, he is the classic of classic Marvel villian. Other than Doom, it wasn't too bad (how about that bridge scene? ) I heard about the Galactus being the storm cloud... I can only hope that is false information, but somehow I have this feeling it is. I guess they decided they spent their budget on the Silver Surfer (which looks pretty good) and that they will just use some left over storm cloud effect for Galactus and call it good. Ouch! Not seeing this in theaters though. I thing Spidey was my last Marvel flick to be seen in theaters.

What about Iron Man? That one looks to be hitting all the right notes.

I think I'll wait till FF: Rise of the Silver Surfer hits DVD shelves, even though the CGI used for the Surfer himself looks good. The last one I didn't like all that much, and would rather not waste money at the theater on a sequel to a film I didn't like, even though I like the concept and comics that the FF is grounded in.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

can you beleive there is an extended version of the first tird of a film coming to dvd?

on top of that marvel is releasing a steelbook special edition of X-2: X-men united.

double and triple dip fun begins anew, i even heard that there will be an extended cut of ghost rider on top of the bare bones dvd release.

add in the new spiderman 2.1 and they are just flooding the market and gouging.

they better not mess up ff 2: rise of the silver surfer because they will ruin 2 film franchises with the cast of one stone, both beloved works of the late Jack"king" Kirby.

they cheaped out on the special effects of spider-man 3, i hope they do not do the same with silver surfer.

No John Dystra on spider-man 3, wtf? were they thinking.

I have very high hopes for the new hulk, daredevil 2, and wolverine, as well as iron man but will probably be dissapointed once again as a comics fan. if they mess up the frank miller and chris claremont take on wolvie i'll never forgive the bastards.

Marvel definetely needs to bring the quality level up because dc is bringing its A game , with the man of steel and the dark knight. too bad they shleved new Gods that would've been a hell of a movie if done right, but i said the same about fantastic four. and the corman version is closer to the doctor doom of kirbys book, lol

kind of how i think X-men 3 should not have been made unless it was by Bryan Singer. Superman returns was ok, x-men 1 and 2 were great.

first mistake hire a cheapy horror movie director second, allow the actors to determine the course of the films, hugh jackman and hallie berry anyone? then kill off cyclops and jean grey when anyone with half a brain knows the phoenix story of the comics does'nt do this and is not what singer wanted, he wanted to do star trek 3 via clothed in x-men universe.

I really have no hope for Wolverine. After the last X-Men movie there is no reason to have any hope. They really bunged that thing up. X2 wasn't so bad, but by killing everybody off in X3 they really ruined it. Cyclops was treated terribly unfairly. You don't take a character that has so many years of history behind him and run him threw the mud like that. He should have stepped up in the third film, not been kicked back further then pissed on and killed. Same thing for Jean/Phenix. That is a great story line, too bad they threw it all away. After Hulk, I have no hope for the sequel, I can't even believe I sat through that retarded movie in the first, why would I subject myself to its sequel. Any Daredevil sequel I have no hope for. Ironman, given the track record I really have no hope for it either. I fail to see how DC is bringing out their A game. Batman Begins was amazingly good. Superman Returns... IMHO it made Daredevil look like award winning material. Really all I see is one good recent film with the DC name attached to it, marvel only fairs worse because there are so many films with the marvel name attached and most have sucked. I really have no hope for a Superman sequel, they already destroyed that story. The next Batman is the only upcomming comic movie I have much faith in.

And the original Fantastic Four was the film that broke the 2005 slump!?
BTW, thanks for spoiling the ending for X3, it probably saved me some time

Sadly, with the Cyclops thing we didn't spoil the ending for you, we spoiled the very friken beginning of the stupid thing! Yeah, save yourself some money. Pick up a copy from the bargin bin after HD or Blu-ray take over and regular DVDs are sold for a buck. It is probably worth a buck to see, plus you get the added value of being entertained as you run the disc and the insert through the shredder. And in the end you have a nice double disc DVD case to to with as you will. So yeah, definitly worth a $1.

What's with all the hatred of X3? Yeah, the treatment of Cyclops was terrible, but it was otherwise a good movie.

X3 really blew to me, but I loved both X1 & X2. I was very pleasetly surprised with Batman Begins and I cannot wait for the sequel either.

Yeah, Batman Begins was good. It was exactly the movie that needed to come out to make people forget about the Joel Shumacher debacles.

One reason, among many, of why X-Men 3 sucked:

I don't normally use strong language when describing my reaction to artistic endeavors, but X-Men 3 was a disgusting pile of shit. The beginning, middle, and end of the movie were all concerned with nothing more than trash/cars swirling around in the air, manipulated by Mutant powers. All in all, an absolutely worthless movie unless the purpose for viewing it is to laugh your ass off (even then, if I wanted crass humor, there are better sources).

I never watched the first movie because I thought it would be a waste of time. But you think it's really good? Is it actually a good movie with a good story and well developed characters or is it just fun too watch? (or both? )

Despite what some others think, I think it was both a good story and it was fun to watch. I can agree with a couple people here that maybe Jessica Alba's performance wasn't stellar and I see where Dr. Doom maybe could have been pulled off better, but all in all, I was very surprised. This could be because I never read the comics and didn't really have any preconceptions about what the story should be. I watched it for the first time only three or four months back and was very surprised at how good it was and wondered why it didn't take as well as some other comic book movies.

I am not even such a big fan of the X-Men comics, but I know the characters, they have been around a long time. They way they pissed on so many characters and brought characters, and made Wolverine and Storm the primary characters sucked. They hardly even notice Scott is gone, barely mention "hmm, I wonder where Scott is..." and then he is never even mentioned again. I am surprised he even got a grave at the funeral. I really liked the first two, but I had complained before of Cyclops treatment in two, since he was held captive off screen for the majority of the film. I was really hoping they would give him some decent screen time in the third one. Nope. Much like Spidey III, it felt like they tried to cram too many plot lines into one film, but yet there was no story structured around those plot lines, it felt rushed and thrown together. The first one may very well have been a near perfect comic book movie in my opinion. X-Men fans and non X-Men fans alike enjoyed it. The second one had flaws and many fans hated it, but I still enjoyed it. The third one was awful. Not even only based on the treatment of Cyclops, but as a whole. The editing at the end was pretty bad too.

Really? I would have thought that most of the fans would have loved it. I did. But then, I'm not into comics. But as a film, and especially a comic book film, I thought it was pretty good.
But then, I really liked Spidey 3, so what do I know!

And as for FF, well it was ok. Nothing special, but just a good fun film. I thought Mr Fantastic and Invisible girl should have been a little older though. Someone like (but not) George Clooney to play Reed Richards.
I dunno, It must be cos I'm getting old myself that everyone else looks so young!

I absolutely HATED the first one. It's up there with Batman and Robin in my mind, seriously. The only action in the entire movie was in the last twenty minutes, and the rest of the movie was like a really, REALLY bad sitcom. I half expected a campy rip off of the Happy Days theme song to come in at the middle. I mean, there was an hour and a half there where it was just them sitting around in thier apartment, or being out in the city, "discovering" thier powers, in the most boring way possible. On top of that, the acting just sucked. Jessica Alba is hot, but she can't act. At all. Ioan Gruffard was just atrocious as Mr. Fantastic, but the funny thing is, I've seen him in other films where he was really good. Whoever played the Human Torch matched Jessica Alba in terms of acting quality. Jeez, he was cheesy as all hell, but thought he was really cool. It was painful to watch. And whoever played Dr. Doom acted it so flat that there was absolutely no sense of threat in the villain. However, I thought that Michael Chiklis played the Thing perfectly. He was great. Sadly, the body suit looked really, really fakey; I laughed when I first saw him because it looked so fake. CGI wouldn't have killed them, right? It wouldn't have looked perfect, but it would have looked better then the body suit and would give the character an other-worldly appearance he needed. Plus, the special effects were awful. Every time Mr. Fantastic stretched his arm, it looked....well, like a piece of CGI rubber. Not even real rubber. CGI rubber.

But the second film looks like it could be good. The first film I only saw because I was sent to the press screening for my paper, but I might actually check this one out on my own. It looks pretty good, though every time the Human Torch has a line in the trailer, I cringe.

The human torch is the worst part of the FF movies. I couldn't stand him in the first one at all. I guess he is like that in the comic, but there he really came off as kind of cool, here he comes off as thinking he is cool when he is not. But then again, I was pretty young the last time I read a FF comic, and maybe he only thought he was cool in those too.

I liked it, just as good as the first for me. The few things that made me cringe was the lack of face for Galactus, the Dodge Hemi powered flying car, and tthe very last method for writing "4" in the air. Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed it just as much as I did the first. Unlike the Pirate and Spiderman franchises, I didn't feel like I had been raped whenever I walked out of the theater.

the reason i think they changed the design of doom in part 1 is to not look like a ripoff of darth vader when everyone knows lucas ripped off kirby's dr doom for him, lol
