Looks promising!
Ooh I wonder when it’s out because I’d love to check that out!
I’m so excited to see this project! I don’t know much about movie restoration, but I do love old movies specially those I used to watch in Betamax with my grandparents… Unsure if the track from a Latin American Betamax would be of any help…

Can anyone online dm me if you have the full length digitized 35mm scan of the great mouse detective and oliver and company also made by Disney? They never used these versions on all home video releases.

You have repeatedly pasted this same message on project threads that have absolutely nothing to do with either The Great Mouse Detective or Oliver and Company. Users have lost access to their accounts over that kind of activity. Kindly refrain from spamming this thread, as well as others, and keep the focus where it belongs. Thank you.

And I thought I was the only one who noticed this shit 😭
How come no prints of the Kostal version ever surfaced (That I know of)?

It’s actually come up several times on eBay over the last decade, and most recently for about $750. The release also exists in private collections; I know at least two people who each own a 4-track mag print.

Didn’t you buy a print too for separate restoration? And BTW how’s everything going with this project here?

No, I have access to one that the owner is willing to loan me for a scan and audio capture. Like the IB Tech and mag audio sources I’ve already digitized, preserving the '82 print will not be cheap, so it may have to come a little further down the line.

I have a 720p “Version 0.5” that’s technically done, but the noise level on the calibrated Fantasound mix is… bad. Sometimes, it’s really bad, and I didn’t want to send it out that way, so lately, in the interims, I’ve been applying a mild but suitable level of noise reduction (emphasis on reduction, I’m not trying to remove all of it) so the track is more listenable. I’ll have it ready as soon as possible, but it is coming along.

Rightfully. Respect to Kostal, but the 1982 version seems to be somewhat messy (although the CD may not do justice to it, as I had a partial digitized mag track that sounded way much better). It’s out of sync with the video, the musical interpretation doesn’t fit Stokowski’s version, and the print itself was described as “murky” at the time. It’s worth preserving, though, so people will be able to watch it - because as of now it’s completely unavailable, AFAIK

Wow that’s cool. I do have to say that I skimmed through the Tocatta and Fugue sample you gave some time ago and the sound was not at all too noisy. Is it a different audio now?

It’s the same (now restored) audio source as before, just EQ’d so it’s listenable on today’s speaker systems and headphones. But when I adjusted the upper midrange frequencies to be more present (read “louder”), it brought up a lot of mag tape and baked-in optical noise with it. It’s pretty distracting and shouldn’t be left in its current state, so that’s the area of the audio spectrum I’m currently fixing; to eliminate this persistent hissing throughout the mix.
