“But now, now we will put away our hatred. Now we will put down our weapons. We have passed through the night of the fires and those who were our masters are now our servants. And we, we who are not human, can afford to be humane. Destiny is the will of God. Tonight we have seen the birth of the Planet of the Apes!”

Brings back memories of "Ape Week" when I was in middle school. Those were the days.

Ape Week was a fan-fucking-tastic time. I really have to buy the Ceasar-head box set.

I've not yet bought the DVDs, I was waiting for anamorphic versions and I'm now deciding whether to shell out AU$170 on the head (reduced from AU$300). I have almost all of the official releases of the scores to the films and the tv series. In short, I am an apes fan. I can't wait to get this somehow. Of course I'll be sure to get it after I've purchased retail copies of the films.

The original post says letterboxed, so I assume they're derived from the original NTSC boxset transfers (mono sound too).

I'm intrigued by the 90 minutes or so that must have been cut to arrive at that final run-time - bits and pieces here and there, or just Battle in its entirety?

The chronology is also something I'm curious about - if it's a 'real time' edit, it would start with Escape and end with Beneath, but that's not the only possible approach...

He's in there, he's in there! :-)

Ok, here is a small breakdown on how I split the films up...

1) Made a new overture using the original films space effects with no titles, and using the PotA Main Title. (There is a menu option to skip this)

2) Taylor's Log Report - Taylor goes to sleep, pause shot on "Chuck Heston in" and then...

X-Fade To:

3)Fade in Escape just after 20th century Fox title and before "An APJ Presents" title) this section has lots of small edits to get the apes to the beach faster, and then I cut some silly dialog about "Welcome to the United..." I then cut just before the titles of Escape show up.

Cut To:

4) *New* shot of the outside of the White House (from "2010"), with dialog of the presedent from "Escape" under, then cut into the oval office. Again this scene had to be cut up a bit and dialog changed so not to mention the death of the Ape Milo.

Cut to:

5) U.K. News Report

Cut to:

6) Heavy edit of the zoo scene where the humans examine the apes. The death of Dr. Milo is a new edit. I did not like how it was done with all the Zoo animals going nuts in some out of place cut away shot in the original.

CUT to:

7) Hallway scene with News Men, then a heavy edit of the Commission Hearing. I have inserted something new here. When one of the Humans ask the Apes if they knew taylor, we have some flash backs of Taylor in his chage giving the note "My Name is Taylor" to Zira, then flash back to to the hearing. The scene plays out with a few more small edits.

Cut to:

8) After the hearing, the Apes go with there new human friends to an office to talk. It's here that Zira starts to tell them the Apes knew Taylor, and now we...

X-Fade to:

9) The Crash of Taylor's Ship, in a heavy Edit. Just after Landon plants the flag, we go back to "Escape" for a few seconds for some comments from the humans, then the apes continue the story. We cut back to PotA for a heavy (but well done) edit of taylor's story.

More to come...

I don't even feel like I'm going out on a limb by saying that the ending of the original POTA is the best ending ever for a film. I still get chills up my spine every time I see it. I wish I could have caught it in the theater during its initial run.

And back to the "Apes" week. I have such fond memories of when ABC TV would do their "Ape" week. For those who are too young or don't remember they would show all 5 films in a row. Many times it was at 4:00PM. So me and my best friend would get together each night after school at one of our houses to watch all the films.

TV isn't the same.

FanFiltration of the Planet of the Apes (PREVIEW)
This is a preview of "FanFiltration of the Planet of the Apes"

A "FAN-EDIT" OF ALL 5 ORIGINAL APES STORIES RETOLD AND RE-EDITED INTO ONE HUGE
5 1/2 HOUR EPIC!

This scene is called "Mass of the Bomb" and it's a strange one!
If you know this scene from the original, then you know what has been done
here. The soundtrack has been replaced with one re-recorded for the Soundtrack
Album. It moves faster, and is trippy!

Dude, just don't puss out on the end of BATTLE FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES. That whole "night of the fires" part of the speech just doesn't belong there. The scene should end "Is upon you... NOW!" You can hear McDowall's voice change during that extra "softening" bit. Here Ceasar really backs off.
