Fan-made prequel remakes, not so far fetched?

What do you think of the possibility of a fan PT being made?

Given the amount of talent displayed in the fanedit section (e.g. TheCutter's audio and original score, Adywan and Bobgarcia's visual effects), I'll contend that there is enough talent in fandom to create a truly great PT.  The problems, as always, are funding and agreeing on what should be done.

However, if a quality script emerged here, maybe it's not all that implausible it could be made.  It's really a shame that so few people put in the effort to read some of the PT scripts posted here.   (Perhaps more writers than readers?)

There are plenty of people unsatisfied with the current PT.  The big following on Adywan's Revisited project leads me to suspect it may not be as difficult to support as one might expect.  What say you? What would be the biggest hurdles?

Funding would be the biggest hurdle. Without the funding, problems with dedication and discipline arise. And you're right that agreeing on a story would be a major issue. Now if someone had a story that was well-liked and had a lot of money, that person would be the de facto director and would need to make it happen.

I don't think a purely collaborative effort would work because everyone would expect control roughly in proportion to those resources given.

There is a lot of talent to be tapped in terms of editing and effects on this site and others. There are impressive model makers on other sites. Any number of us know people who are actors or involved in movie making of some sort. But quality control would be a stumbling block even if we had the money. Even the best of fan films suffer from some poor acting and a lack of polish. Despite the level of talent we can probably find, it would take a lot to make sure the film satisfies our expectations for its quality. Maybe I underestimate the talent that could be found - I hope that is the case!

The elephant in the room is lack of authorization by Lucasfilm. GL has been great about letting people make fan films and edits as long as no money is made. One would hope the same standard would apply if fans wanted to create an alternative vision of the prequels.

The blue elephant in the room.

I think it would cost too much money to create a "fan PT" complete with sets, actors, etc. It'd probably be a different story if you went with animation instead, though.

I know I should play the only Jedi who gets a rainbow-coloured lightsaber. I'm just too cool for blue or green.

^Um, how would they know your lightsaber is rainbow if it's radio.

As long as I get a double rainbow lightsabre....

WHAT WOULD IT MEAN!?!?!?

Back to the question... it does seem that the right script, the right talent, and a strike of lightning might produce a decent something for a ~$0 budget.

All of the parts are difficult... but the lightning is hardest.  You never know when or where it's going to strike.
