Starz has an HD channel, would be great for someone to do an HD2DVD preservation project of this.

That is probably a good idea, because WE,those of us that have done these projects before, probably can't get "max" quality.

Well, looks like that's come and gone.  Ah well.

Edit: While a small consolation, there is a pretty good quality VHSRip (though probably really from laserdisc) XviD floating around.

Looks amazing.  Time to retire that laserdisc rip to Xvid to DVD I have.

I'm floored by how many movies are not on DVD that made it to laserdisc, which was a much less successful format.

Laserdisc only ever played second fiddle to VHS.  (And it did last over 20 years!) Some movies were "new" releases when the LD came out, but are "old" catalog titles now, and studios often don't think they could sell enough copies to make a profit. Look how long it took for Howard the Duck to come out!

It will be interesting to see what Warner's new "burn on demand" program shakes loose from the vaults!

Where were you in '77?

I agree, Im interested to see what will come out, but also remember that not all studios are doing this which mean still plenty that arent going to come on DVD

I'm afraid for that 'burn on demand' program.  It basically means they're going to neglect deeper catalog titles using the excuse that they're available on demand.

For a $20 DVD (which is expensive for today's market) I expect restored anamorphic video, clean 5.1 audio (whenever possible), english subtitles, and a few nice extras (at least a trailer).

Professional and proper encoding/authoring takes time... that I'm sure they won't bother with.

I think what it will turn out to be is a disc in a cardboard sleeve with just a movie, a generic 'burn on demand' menu, and video quality that looks like they capped it off the air.

No matter how great the lure of a 'lost movie', I don't think I'd buy anything under those conditions.

I'm crossing my fingers the other studios are going to follow Warner's lead. :)

Heh heh.  I just realized the movie is "Feds" not "F.E.D.S.", which is something else.

Oh, since the torrent doesn't exist anymore, for those that want english subtitles, here is my own version:http://www.mediafire.com/?nzmzhlxuzea

I capped the movie from an old Starz VHS recording, ripped the captions, retimed and corrected any dropouts.

They're largely paraphrasing of the dialog, but it's better than no subs if you need them.

Edit: Subtitles link updated... see post below.

I just got to sit down and enjoy this tonight.

It looks and sounds great (better than a lot of commercial discs).

Excellent work.  Thanks for putting in the work CompMovieGuy.

Btw, for those using it, here is an updated subtitle file.  A large part of the dialog during the credits was missing before.

I prefer original theatrical audio myself instead of a bumped up remix with added foley. Case in point is THE TERMINATOR original 1.0 track is vastly superior to the 5.1 with the added foley effects.

Original theatrical everything ftw.

"Right now the coffees are doing their final work." (Airi, Masked Rider Den-o episode 1)

Just so everyone knows the FEDS audio is AC3 384 2.0 and the original mix was Dolby

I prefer owning the original HK versions of Jackie Chan films, even the Universe release (The picture quality is crap though) of the original 120m version of WHO AM I? I just wish high quality original versions of Mr. Nice Guy, WHO AM I?, Police Story IV: First Strike and Rumble in the Bronx are released. Regarding THE MYTH, I'll be purchasing the Blu-ray. Oh, and alot of the Digitally Remastered titles I own of HK/Chinese films, I prefer watching it in the original theatrical audio. Tai Seng can go suck OVER 9000 rotten eggs since they're never getting a cent from me.

Alright, been a long time since I updated....been doing other stuff, got sidetracked...and ran into some problems

DVD5 is done....it comes in at 4.36GBs (4470MBs), which leaves about 10MBs of free space. I didnt want to encode it again on the chance that I MIGHT get those MBs and I doubt it would make a difference anyway...DVD will include enhanced working menu with scene selection, english subtitles (thanks to Doctor M, they are not word for word because sometimes they go so fast but enough is there to get the point across and they are sync'd decently enough), and cover art provided by edskizzorhands.

Video
1.78 Anamorphic
CCE 6 pass 7025kbps (video tops out over 9800kbps and DVD at over 10000kbps, but no problems during muxing)
Proper crop and IVTC

Audio
English 2.0 @ 384kbps

So where can it be found?

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

Also, if I might add, this version nukes the Starz logo, does it not?
