FACE/OFF - complete 35mm scan opportunity (WIP) — Page 2

Since we are basically leeching onto RU.08’s other scanning projects (and this is the only reason why we could do it so cheaply, bless him) you can indeed donate something to his project and still get the early release of Face/Off. Get in touch with me or him and I’ll put you in the list of those who will get an early access release.

This first direct release will have a 25gb limit for practical reasons, but we didn’t say anything about the FINAL release. That will be up to PDB.

The only costs reduced due to my activities are mailing hard-drives, but I’ll take the credit anyway. Basically, Thxita and PDB are having this scanned, I’m having a mystery print I’ll tell you about later scanned (but it has to go to PDB, just like Face/Off), and then if/when I can afford it BATB.

Saving on hard drives and worldwide shipping means saving many hundreds of dollars/euros, if it wasn’t for you!

Will this scan be available on myspleen?

The final release yes, I imagine, but not the first direct release, that’s something we will release only to the donors to show our gratitude for helping us out in what is a logistical ordeal and a financially risky effort for us. As said, we could only do this thanks to other scan projects currently in the works, anyone who wants access to the first direct release in exchange of a small donation towards our current projects feel free to contact me.
Thanks again to everyone who’s giving us a hand, even small amounts help us a lot!

It’s been scanned, but you’ll have to be patient until the other scans are completed and the hard drives are sent out. (Nope sorry it wasn’t).

Okay, then. So wheels are in motion, things are in progress.

It’s been almost a year. Any news on a wider release?

We have had some problems with the scanner who has grown an immense backlog, at the moment we can’t tell when it will be ready. I’m very sorry for the long delay

Author

So, 2 years later, are there any news on this?

Would love to know as well!

Sorry to say, no. We did retrieve most of the material from the scanner in the meantime (other previous projects), only Face/Off is still there and the person is kinda hard to reach for very long periods of time. I wrote to him recently and I’m waiting for a reply. Sorry for the long delays, guys. I’m personally ashamed that this person turned out to be so difficult to deal with, it didn’t start that way, as the delivery of previous projects prooved. I still trust that we’ll get this delivered eventually.

So, another year later, any news on this?

I’ve been wondering about the same thing.

I’ll see if I can solve this by the end of summer, otherwise I’ll refund the people who sent me money and we forget about Face Off 35mm all together. It’s going to be a loss for me, I won’t deny, but what else can I do. You live you learn.

I hope you do, otherwise bummer.

This 35mm scan looks so much better than the Blu-ray.

I know, it would be a shame to miss this chance to see it in 35mm. Fingers crossed

Summer’s over, meaning the project is most likely dead.

Author
Time

Well, I’m afraid this project is dead in the water, since thxita failed to meet the deadline.

Author

That’s a shame. I was looking forward to this.

Yes, I’m afraid that it’s dead. I heard nothing from the guy and at this point I never will. It’s a crying shame, it looked like a nice print. Whoever donated, can PM me the date of the donation and the email linked to your paypal account so I can identify you and I’ll see that you get refunded, in alternative I can offer a 35mm scan of a different film. I have two in the works that have never been scanned before, the scans have already been delivered to me (no more vanishing scanners), but they are still in a raw format and will need some work.
If I take a while to reply don’t worry, I’m just not very active on OT, trying to keep up with a busy life and for some reason I rarely receive email notifications from OT, but sometimes I remember to log in.

I’m sorry to hear that the project was unable to be finished due to circumstances beyond your control. I would have enjoyed seeing the differences between the 35mm and the home releases, plus I always love an excuse to watch Face/Off!

Just curious, but in these situations, do scanners at least return your film? I’m worried the answer is no, which is awful.

In this case the film is owned by a friend of the scanner.

Join my Discord channel and send me a direct message I’ll be happy to tell you more about “bad” scanners and the kind of things that can happen.
