Expanded Universe Novel Discussion. — Page 8

And we really don't know how long the life expectancy is in the SW universe. Who knows, we may be reading or seeing stories about a 130 year old Luke Skywalker that still seems to be in his 50s.

As for the question of will star wars live on after May? Definitely. As long as money is to be made popular franchises will always live one, in one form or the other.

Even though after Enterprised is cancelled later this year and there aren't any ST films/shows in the works, Paramount will still be making a hell of a lot of money off of the books and maybe video games.

Let's hope the Maybe Video Games are good ones.

Back on topic, maybe we'll eventually get to the point where the SW Galaxy meets ours!

I hope they don't get that desperate.

Well now that Anikan is dead, Tahiri is half Vong, and C3PO is no longer afraid of death, then where else can they go? A collection of stories about Jacen Solo sounds unpleasant to say the least.

I assume, going from the Hints we got in the last NJO novel, the Corporate Sector.
"I don't mind if you don't like my manners. I don't like them myself. They're pretty bad. I grieve over them during the long winter evenings."

But who will it be about? They killed off the cool one, and Jaina got boring because she didn't stay dark for long enough, so what's the point?

Why must it be about the Solo kids? Why not an old-fashioned Luke-Leia-Han-Mara story.
"I don't mind if you don't like my manners. I don't like them myself. They're pretty bad. I grieve over them during the long winter evenings."
Author

That would rock, but that didn't seem to be the way NJO was heading. It was like it was retiring the Movie Characters.

We can hope that that is not the case.

Just making an observation. Han and Leia are old, and don't have the Force, Luke is severly wounded and Mara will have her hands full with Ben. Chiewbaca and Ackbar are dead, Wedge went back into retirement, and Lando is more interested in business than war.

And the droids aren't going on their own crusades against evil.

Like I said, hope.

!!!
Han!

The Adult Male Solo is on the cover!!! That means it's not about Jacen! (Right?)
BTW, I must add that that name sounds really stupid: The Joiner King.

Retarted? Can you even remake a strawberry tart after it has been made?

Anyway, it seems from the synopsis that the Fantastic Four are going to be the main focus of this novel (with some intertwined mystery solving bits from the wonder twins)

Correct my spelling if you want to; just avoid doing it with the bad puns.

I'm rereading the Thrawn trilogy after many years and I found the following snippet on page 56 of Dark Force Rising which I think counters this argument:

'The problem is that if this alleged Jedi out on Jomark really is Joruus C'Baoth, he has to be over a hundred by now. I know there are some species that live longer than that, but he's supposed to be human'

War does not make one great.

The Thrawn trilogy also mentioned hot chocolate.

Anyway, you're probably right. Its safe to assume they live as long as we do.

Its also true that the EU contradicts itself left and right though.

That's partly the fault of it constantly changing publishers from DelRey to Bantam and then back to DelRey.

That is probably the main reason, yes. What is your point?

The fact remains that the EU contradicts itself left and right, even now that they are all produced under the imprint of Lucasbooks there are inconsistencies and contradictions.

No point really, just giving an explanation.

Though, I think that the number of glaring contradictions are remarkably few for how large the EU. And especially considering that many were caused by the prequels contradicting established EU canon and prequel-era EU material having to change for it.

See. It all comes back to blaming Lucas.

actually i kinda agree with Chaltab...I mean, if its all under the imprint of Lucasbooks now...well, we all know how many inconsistancies Lucas has introduced into the prequals

Why Anakin really turned to the dark side:
"Anakin, You're father I am" - Yoda
"No. No. That's not true! That's impossible!" - Anakin

Besides, hot chocolate is mentioned in more than just the Thrawn novels.

You'd think with the technology in their galaxy they'd have invented chocolate.

While I'm sure Lucas can claim a good bit of the blame for adding to the mess, I think it all comes back to the writers themselves. Some of them just created extremely outrageous plots and technology(the whole Callista fiasco and the Galaxy Gun come to mind).

We are all saying that there are inconsistencies, I don't see how you "agree" with Chaltab.

But Chaltab is right in that there are very few considering that the EU is so expansive.

never said i agree...i said kinda agree. the kinda is there because i was agreeing that lucas causes bigger inconsitancies to the original movies than the EU does, most of the EU's inconsistancies are between various story lines in the EU (now i havent read all of it, so if im off base here dont flame me). and few if any are with EU story and the original trilogy. Lucas made a new story that should jive 110% with what star wars actually is and with the original storyline yet he failed to do so. A few authors didnt read the 'hundreds' of stories already written for the EU and make theirs jive perfectly with each and every story, a task that gets harder the more stories that are written. all lucas really had to do was make a story that fit perfectly with the 3 original movies, a story that he wrote...a much simpler task, yet he failed.
