A Clone Wars novel, I think. I tell you, I want to pick up the Clones Wars stuff so badly, but I'm so far behind in the EU that I don't know when I'll get to. Shatterpoint is setting on my bookshelf, saying 'Read me, Read me!' but I'm now at the last installment in the Thrawn Trilogy, and I can't put down the trilogy long enough to read anything else. Heir to the Empire was pretty slow, but by the end of Dark Force Rising, I was ready to forgive Timothy Zahn for that. Especially when Mara Jade took such a huge role.

Yeah, its a Clone Wars novel (it'd be pretty boring to have a novel where Yoda is on Dagobah). I saw the back and it was like "The ultimate confrontation."

I would think Yoda vs Palpatine would be the ultimate confrontation, but that seems to be happening in Epsiode III...

Maybe Yoda will fight the ghost of Darth Malak or something.

Nope, just Count Dooku is all it says. But we know that he isn't going to kill him.

Doesn't sound so ultimate to me...haven't we seen Yoda and Dooku fight before? But then again, it might be good even if the ultimate confrontation isn't so ultimate.

I assume its just a marketing ploy

It's sitting on my shelf, I've just got to get time to read it

I never thought I'd get this interested in the Clone Wars after seeing Episode II, but it really sounds like they have picked top-quality writers to tell the stories, even if the marketing ploys are a bit out there.

Has anyone read the first Obsession comic yet? Is it any good? I know this is a thread for novel discussion, but there is a lot more to the EU than just the books. And besides, while we're on the topic of the Clone Wars, we might as well add other mediums into the mix.

Whoa, Obsession is out?

I had a separate Comic thread, it died. I think its still on the 2nd page though.

Yeah, Obsession #1 just came out this past week. I'm heading back from break today, and I thought I might see if B&N has it on my way back to campus.

Too bad your Comics thread died, Sessler. I don't understand why so few people want to discuss the EU.

Are you following any of the other arcs, like Republic or Empire?

I think I do understand... To some people only the OT is canon, so they don't care about the EU. (I also accept the Zahn trilogy.)

Thats true, and considering this is basically an OT purist site, I can understand when an EU thread dies.

I guess you're right. Though I honestly think that Star Wars wouldn't be half as fun if there wasn't more to it than the OT (even though I obviously love the OT dearly).

And Sessler: I'm not a huge comics person, and since I only started dabbling in them recently, I missed out on a lot of the Empire and Republic story arcs, so I'm a bit afraid to try them. What are they like?

For the most part they're really good and I love Duursema's drawing style in the Republic Arc(if for no other reason buy it for Jan's art)

The Empire arc has its moments as well, the only ones that are really a must-have from Empire is the "Darklighter" and "Down to the Last Man" arcs.

Stopped at Barnes and Noble--no Obsession. I picked up the latest issues of Republic and Empire, instead, just to figure out what they're like.

My B&N blows, they still have the same issue of republic number 50 from over a year ago

That's nothing:

I'm not even sure my local(est) barnes and noble even carries SW comics.

Never really read any of the Star Wars books. I remember trying to read "Heir to the Empire" when I was little and utterly board with it. I might try it again now that I'm older. What books do you guys recommend? Are they really worth reading? Any suggestions on which books to start out with from scratch would be great.

Well, Heir to the Empire would be a good place to start

Stick with the Thrawn Trilogy--you'll be glad you did. The latter half of Dark Force Rising is where the payoff really starts to hit.

After that, I'd suggest the X-wing Series and I, Jedi.

Or any books or graphic novels that have to deal with whatever era of the EU interests you most--don't ignore the graphic novels just because they're illustrated...they're really great fun to read (my personal favorite is Mara Jade, By the Emperor's Hand).

I'd have to agree with that, don't overlook the graphic novels or you're missing a huge chunk of EU that IMO has a better quality-to-crap ratio.
