Escape From New York [spoRv] *BD-25 RELEASED* — Page 9

I have a sneaking suspicion that the SF release is going to be a very cool thing to play around with

It's comes with the best possible sound source, DTSMA

An amazing PQ for ability to resolve more detail than any previous releases

I lighter PQ which allows for another gamma treatment

All these things lead to someone who is as skillful as our beloved CatMan, having an un tampered copy of EFNY which can now be adjusted to suit as an intended release

Remember, once something is too dark, nothing can be done to fix any underlying issues

I am guessing no pun intended that the SF release is a somewhat Darkhorse lighter expose release which can be gamma corrected

Blacks are not crushed on this copy either, the sound is as good as it gets imo

I have 9 copies of this film thus far, I'd like just 1 so I can enjoy

Oh just so you know, some revealing things, you can see when Airforce one is doing a flyby in the cloudscape, 1 of the clouds has a nice black pole holding up another cloud, which I have never ever noticed, or can remember, in my last 300 viewings of this film

I am then treated to heli fly over of NYC, in Green pseudo CGI, I see cars on the ground, I had to do a double take

Even the blips have new meaning to this film

Start of the film, when you 1st see the map, radial circles, all the detail, all I can say is, best detail resolving copy I have seen

I agree except for the the brightness is set a little to high and has slightly blown out the picture in some scenes , not sure if that can be fixed properly can it? and the blue line, can that be fixed properly?

Author
Time

gamma can correct brightness, blue line more than likely from print, something they could have omitted during transfer

Author

The blue line is in the emulsion of the ip they used for the transfer and of which they could of easily fixed. Can it be fixed now with any of the magic tools used by this community.

Just got my copy today, 33 GB for movie, 22GB worth of extras

This might be very interesting indeed, ripping to my HDD now so I can watching on my WD TV

I'm @ the train atm and you can clearly see everything shot during dark scenes, which is great

Blacks do not get crushed, but some anomalies, Dat blue line, eww

Hauk and Plissken office meet, very next shot of Snake sitting down, background image, wall moire is bad, really bad, you will see it, I wont spoil it for you

Now I was listening to Debra Hills commentary, or someone elses, where they were saying how lighting was done on Snakes head, with 1 light, red from behind, in the cockpit of the glider

This movie was pretty much shot on a shoe string budget, it was state of the art at the time when you see how they did it all

I just dont think this will get any better unless they do a proper 4K rip from the negative, and we all know this will never happen

As far as I am concerned, this is as good as it will get

Yea, I forgot about the moire scene, its quite bad and is something else that needs fixing for the SpoRv v2.0.

OK, guys, please continue to look for the shots which need to be fixed... I'll stay here, drinking some fresh beverage, waiting for that... (^^,)

@Snake Burton: may you post a frame with the blue line?

here it is, 1st time we meet Huak, all the way through the scene unfortunately

I will add, its just right of the Bird emblem of the chopper, it stays in the middle of shot all the way through, if this pic isnt enough, let me know, I will post another

Another pic here, if you want me to circle it I can do that, I have cropped, for some reason it does not show up as well as when I am watching the film, it's quite evident in the film

Snake Burton, I see the blue line, thanks!

Is it present in all the movie, or just in some scenes/shots?

Waiting for moiré examples! (^^,)

The blue line is in a couple of other scenes from what I remember as well but not throughout the entire movie.

Unfortunately I am unable to upload screenshots at the moment, I,m sure Snake can give you examples of these scenes.

Well, if it's "just" in few scenes, restoration job will be easier, at least... I hope...

You can see a radial pattern on the wall, 1st time Snake enters Hauk's office

It's actually really bad, it dances around vividly, I don't know what others think of it but SF are aware and let this through?

Can't remember if it was in the HDTV as well...

I have never ever noticed it before

I have never seen the blue lines either

That moire pattern wasn't in the hdtv or original bluray.

The original bluray had the blue line but much more feint and less intrusive , either because it was partially fixed or because the master was much darker. I can't remember seeing it in the Hdtv.

I am thinking because the newer SF is so much sharper than we get Moire on the wall

Also pretty sure HDTV was only 720P?

Author
Time

Nope, HDTV is 1080i MPEG2 29.97fps

I don,t agree, while its not perfect, it's has its positives including the widest aspect ratio along with a brighter image (the MGM was way to dark), too bright in some scenes but this can be fixed from what I understand in this thread along with the other problems mentioned in this thread. The MGM bluray could not be fixed as due to the dark image alot of detail was lost in the shadows. The SpoRv 2.0 can fix the SF and make it the definitive edition.
