I'm afraid you should wait for the V1.1, then... (-^,)

Looks like SF completely fucked this one

Based solely on the two screenshot, the new BD doesn't seem too bad at all!

I don't know how this happened, Andrea, but your link has compressed the BD image severely.  Here is the same comparison without the artifacts found in the BR image from your link.

Forgot to select PNG in caps-a-holic comparison... (**_)

It seems to me that the BD has been Anamorphically corrected too? displaying more information? but this could just be that the initial HDTV RIP was cropped?

These screen shots seem better as a comparison now, for $20, I think it's worth buying..

The Scream Factory release certainly has the least amount of cropping of all of the previous video releases. Contrast has been slightly upped, which for me is neither here nor there, but they drop the ball big time in one area: The audio.

Audio options are 5.1 and 2.0 - both in lossless DTS-HD. But the two channel mix is *not* the original Dolby Surround mix, and is simply a downmix of the newer 5.1 remix. ... Where's the facepalm icon when you need one?

I wish there was a list of movies that Shout has downmixed  from 5.1.

Any chance that a 2.0 version of the spoRv edition will use the new blu-ray as a source? Just want to be sure whether or not I need to own the new blu-ray, so I won't be in the wrong for getting the 2.0 spoRv version later.

Thanks to everyone!

So, should I take the Shout as source for an eventual 2.0 version?

The SF BD could really use your expertise in the audio dept.

Dunno about the picture tho. Looks nice from what i saw :)

The contrast is boosted to much, as can be seen by the David 14 green logo computer graphic been blown out so could do with some magic. Also the blue line which appears in certain shots needs removing but on the other hand the framing is the best it has ever been. Again the sound could do with some fixing and include the original unaltered track with the music cues in the correct place.

Definitely version 2.0 should use the SF as its base, mainly because of the framing.

The HDNet broadcast is still my favorite visually.  It just strikes a good balance between light and dark.  The BD's are a bit too extreme in either direction.

I have managed to view the newer SF disk from torrentz, it's actually quiet revealiing

I'm using a Panasonic 60 Inch ST60A Plasma to view and even though this is a 10GB rip, I can see things I have yet to see in any other source material

I ordered mine along with some other stuff, and I watched the rip 4 times in 1 day

Well, sounds like I'm going to need to go find this version somewhere soon. If people demand a 2.0 spoRv and it ends up being made, I definitely want to see it!

I am seeing stuff that I have never seen before, I can resolve images that are not in other sources, I can see heat haze of fires that now show as shadows on walls, little nuances like this

While the colors can be a little off, the image quality is certainly there

A spoRv 2.0 using the SF as base would be my choice using the hdtv colors / contrast etc, replacing the blown out David 14 computer graphic as best possible as well as minimizing the occasional blue lines. Sound wise the incorrect music cues in various parts of the 5.1 soundtrack need to be fixed as well as including the mono track from the Mgm Bluray.

The chosen audio tracks present in the [spoRv] version are good, and I don't think they need to be replaced... am I wrong?

As far as I am aware yes, I think it's only the SF that has some of the music cues wrong. But in regards to the aspect ratio the SF should be used and obviously fixed for the reasons given above and due to the increased bit rate of the SF compared to the Hdtv and all those audio tracks the size of the spoRv 2 should be increased to a Bd50.

[spoRv] has the best audio options, including the HDNet 5.1 version of the original audio which is unique to that broadcast... that in addition to the laserdisc track makes it far and away the best.  The 5.1 remix that's been around since the special edition DVD made several changes to the original mix.  That altered mix is featured on most every release.

Thanks for clarifying the audio situation. Now, bring on the SpoRv version 2.0.
