Just wait for the Broadway opening of Porgy and Bess.

I thought I remembered hearing that the Porgs were designed to look similar to the native birds of Skellig Michael so they wouldn’t have to go through every shot and paint out the birds.

Which would (if true) mean that they weren’t created for merchandising purposes as many are claiming, though they were certainly designed to be cute so they could be turned into a merchandising opportunity.

Anyone know if I’m remembering this correctly? I’m at work and slightly busy at the moment so I can’t try and Google for an answer for a while.

^ The native birds of Skellig Michael:-

http://www.skelligmichaelcruises.com/the-skelligs-2/skelligs-birds/ & http://skelligislands.com/birds-of-skellig-michael/

There are indeed some similarities / elements between 2 or 3 of the bird species there and what the Porg looks like.

I have a bad feeling about this.

I’m definitely not looking forward to the porgs myself. I can see everyone raving about the movie and always just adding in "oh and if only you could get rid of the Porgs.

They’re an ugly kind of manufactured cute.

No, I meant that the fact that they’re so blatantly trying to be the cutest thing ever is ugly.

Yes, I know. I was making a joke.

I wonder if they’re cheating with that last shot? Do we technically see Rey and Ren in the same frame?

This kind of stuff is done all the time and you never know until you actually see the movie.

It wouldn’t surprise me if it’s a little bit of a fake-out.

Apparently that Chewbacca shot with the Porg did not have him in CGI. I’m guessing it looks odd because of the eyes and just how groomed his face looks.

And also the teeth and lips not blending in well.

What was your signature pic before photobucket turned to the dark side and started blocking 3rd party image sharing mate?

(Or is that pic your chosen sig?)

It was a reenactment of the “I am your father” scene done by emoticons. I’ve been thinking for some time I need a replacement, but never got around to it.

EDIT: I wouldn’t look too hard into the disclaimer. From what I heard it’s because it was aired on Disney XD, which has a younger target audience than most channels.

oojason was talking about the first TV Spot having a disclaimer about the film not being suitable for minors, whereas I heard (rumours, mind you) That it’s because of the channel it was aired on, not an indication of the film itself.

Ah, I somehow missed that post and thought you were talking about something in your signature image (which no one else can see). Never mind!

Me too - though I eventually twigged that flametitan was referring to the TLJ trailer - though I spent a good 10 minutes examining the sig for a hidden disclaimer beforehand 😃

(it’s been a slow night for this old head 😉)

flametitan makes a decent point that there may may be additional cautions for channels (ie, Disney XD) that TLJ is being advertised on that the film itself may not be fully suitable for it’s younger audiences.

It’ll be interesting to see how the MPAA and BBFC etc rates TLJ.

I really hope that photobucket re-thinks it’s policy on barring 3rd part image sharing (unless you pay £££/$$$s) - not only for the many, many covers, art, and pics etc shared on here and other sites over the years - but also that it will likely serve to push away many of it’s users to other image sharing sites - and could/has damaged it’s brand and the photobucket site itself…

(…though they may have already achieved this by the sheer amount of adverts that pop up when logging in to the site - or trying to view a pic based on there)

I’m also very interested to see the MPAA and BBFC ratings for this. At least with BBFC we’ll know if anything gets censored for a lower rating, but it’s entirely possible we’d never find out if the same is true here in the US.

If censorship happens, it’ll most likely be from the MPAA here in the US firsr, then that censored cut will be the “official” cut and would be the version that gets sent to the BBFC and other countries. So if the BBFC cuts anything, it’s possible that it would actually be twice-censored…

I can’t imagine that any Disney Star Wars movie would contain a shred of content warranting an R rating.
