Closest IMAX laser system is the better part of two hours away from me. I’ve been thinking about making the pilgrimage for the last couple weeks but I haven’t found the time yet. I really hope I make it out there while it’s still playing.

There’s one in Reading, don’t know how far your are from there. I’ve never been but I’ve heard it’s a good one, though you have to walk through a Jordan’s Furniture to get to it.

That’s the one I’m talking about. I’m out in Fitchburg, so it’s a ways to go for a movie. Boston’s got one coming in, but I doubt it will be open while TLJ is still playing. Maybe for Solo.

I don’t understand why we have two Last Jedi discussion threads?

Because one sucks slightly less than the other

One was created for discussion before the movie was released; the other was created after the movie was released. Not really needed to delete this one, since there’s plenty of good discussion here.

Ideally one day every IMAX screen will be laser (hell, every standard screen too).

Also, technically one is for discussion and the other is for review.
But I think the key difference at this point is that the review thread is toxic, and the discussion thread is not (yet.)

Most threads here have duplicate threads.

Except for this one: http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/The-Lapti-Nek-Appreciation-Thread/id/13598/page/1

for now

I try to post non-opinion Episode 8 news here, and everything else in the review thread.

Any guesses on what appeared to be a kyber crystal that Luke had on the island? I think it was red. Could it be Vader’s? Could it be the rest of Kylo’s? Could I be misrembering all of this?

The Jedi are all but extinct.......

Can we keep the few still rocking with 70mm film? I’m not stuck on a really late train into San Jose right now for the fun of it! 😉

Of course, but who knows how long those will stay around, unfortunately.

It was apparently an ancient crystal he collected with other relics on the island. There was a “TLJ secrets” video on one of these threads a day or two ago.

Because I can’t stop thinking about the scene:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1M95njhovw

One theory is that it takes more space for a ship to accelerate to light speed than the distance between the Raddus and the Supremacy, so it would only be going a small fraction of the speed of light at impact. Of course, that doesn’t fix the problem of weaponizing the hyperdrive.

So I imagine Hyperspace as a different dimension entirely, and ships accelerate along a non-Euclidean vector causing them to only weakly interfere with normal matter. So, most of the Raddus’s mass was already in Hyperspace at impact, making it much less violent.

My reaction to your attempt to make sense of this after what Abrams did in TFA, and your reaction to that:

My stance on revising fan edits.

You mean the visible from everywhere superweapon superbeam that makes planets go boom? The worst bit of that doesn’t exist anymore thanks to Restructured, and for the rest…

shrug

Besides, Starkiller was a one-off dumb thing. Hyperdrives as weapons hurt my brain the same way the implications of the shield/lasgun interaction does in Dune.

I didn’t mind the weaponization of lightspeed. I think the objects would have to have a logical size in order to be effective (X-Wing + Hyperdrive + Death Star wouldn’t work), and I don’t remember any other occasion where it would’ve been worth to lightspeed yourself into something. Both the Rebel Alliance and the Resistance were always short on resources which would make hyperdriving one ship into something way too costly, a too big of a sacrifice to be worth it.
