It’s crazy when people say Phasma was a waste or whatever. It’s so obvious that they were just introducing her to have in their pocket for later bad assery.

Yeah, they definitely brought her in to light a fire under her. She’s definitely not going to be a happy camper (assuming she survived, which she must have) and she’s gonna be gunning for Finn.
Maybe they’ll both be cyborgs by VIII?

I would really like to see Rey and Poe together while Rey and Finn have a sibling sort of relationship. But I’m still down for a Poe/Finn bromance. I know people might freak out about this idea (“rehash blah blah UGH!”) but I’d like to see Rey/Luke most of the movie together with the rest of the team going their seperate ways (Poe+Finn Together) but instead of an early battle (ESB, Walker Assault), the finale of the second act could be a space battle.

I agree with this. The first 1/3 of the movie should be centered around Rey and Kylo’s training, giving us information about the status of the New Republic after the destruction of the Hosnian System and developing the Finn/Poe bromance. This is the time where they need to be developing our new characters as well as setting up whatever story the Resistance members will have.
EDIT:
Regarding Phasma she wasn’t a waste as she was barely in the trailers but the marketing made her out to be something more. The only villain that was ever hyped in the trailer and by JJ was Kylo Ren and all he said is that he wasn’t a mustache twirling villain…which he wasn’t. I don’t remember him saying anything like Phasma had much screen time or was badass.

I hope not. This would be boring as hell and already seen, with a “Rocky 4” vibe that would be ridiculous. EpVIII should be centered around new stuff. LFL is aware of the main criticism against TFA, I highly doubt they are going for another rehash movie.
edit: by the way is it a “spoiler thread” or a “write your own EpVIII thread” ? Because I don’t see much actual spoilers here…

Well for one it would be boring depending on how the training plays out. Though slower in pace than what was going on with the rest of the trio trying to stay one step ahead of The Empire Luke’s training was arguably the best part of ESB. Secondly, someone being trained in the ways of The Dark Side is new. And lastly people being trained isn’t a rehash of anything because training in of itself is a common plot point not only films but stories in general.

We’re having discussions based on thing said in interviews which can be considered spoilers.

No.

I didn’t say it was definitively the best part but I can see how someone can think so. There is oodles of character development even before Yoda accepts his training. From Luke being frustrated at the X-Wing crashing to swamp to him being impatient to get to Yoda…all of that develops his character. And when the training starts we learn more about Luke, the Dark Side and the Light and life itself. It doesn’t matter that Luke’s training was mostly just working out and lifting stones because those scenes lead to character growth that cemented his transformation from a whiny farm boy to a serene, confident and mature Jedi Knight. Lastly, his fundamental struggles occur during this time as well which also adds to his character arc in the OT.
As for the placement of the training being mostly in the 1st act it won’t matter because there can be exciting moments in there as well. Rey sparring with Luke, Kylo sparring with is Knights and in Kylo’s case he should have a final test before he is anointed by Snoke as someone worthy of continuing the Dark Side’s imperative. Sprinkle in an action scene with the Resistance and the set up for their story line and you have a really good 1st act and then you have the rest of film be more focused on the story lines instead of the training.

For me it easily is. My favorite scene in Star Wars is the entire sequence (beginning to end) of Yoda explaining the force, Luke doubts it, Yoda lifts the X-Wing, “I don’t believe it!” “That is why you fail”.
Favorite scene from my favorite movie of all time. The music, the scenery, the dialogue, the acting, the execution. It’s a wondereous showcase of the force, far superior to any midiclohrian crap.

I would +2 if it were possible.

Ok. The philosophic part so, I concur; I thought you were talking about the “rock levitation” and “going from one three to another” parts. Luke’s confrontation with himself is also as good as the Yoda lifting the X-Wing sequence, but the music is curiously weak for this scene.
Weak???
Classic Mala.
I’m saying. The music cues in that scene are timeless and really invoke panic and claustraphobia. Even the “Force Theme” seems to have a different aura about it.

There is an inadequate use of synthetic (and annoying) sounds. Not a big fan of how Williams composed (and orchestrated) this short sequence.
But hey, if you think ESB is 1000% perfection that’s hard to swallow I guess.
No one has said or alluded to ESB being perfect…Ironic that you should say that.
hum… ok… at least you understand yourself I hope…

I concur. The synth sounds are a little bit too “80s theremin” to me. It sounds dated, and doesn’t really make an impact.
It’s a weird spot in a mostly excellent soundtrack.

Do you understand what I’m talking about? Clearly not because I never said ESB was 1000% perfection and I don’t believe that to be the case.
And yes I knew exactly what cue you were talking about because that was the cue you were referred to. What else would you be talking about?
Anyway, I think that’s a fantastic portion of the score. The synth is atypical but isn’t the slow motion as well? Makes sense that the music reflects the change in style. As for the rest of the cue (featuring the epic rendition of the underused dark side motif), if you don’t like it I don’t even know what to say.

Best response gif ever! What movie is that from?

I think you’re going to get a snarky comment from the bigger Frink.
